He usually does a lot of silly songs, but he has songs like this too! It's the best.
Even though the sound is incredibly jazzy or funk/soul-like, it's not just an 'imitation' of foreign music; it's completely digested into a delicate, sophisticated sound that suits his vocal quality, which is another great thing about it.
He does some intense shouting towards the end, but it's not a forced shout like 'I'm going to beat Tom Jones's It's Not Unusual (you know it, right?)', but rather a natural and refined shout unique to a soy-sauce-faced, artsy Japanese man. Yet, it still has that soulful quality typical of a Japanese man. In other words... it's a shout where his true feelings leak out while maintaining the restrained elegance and shyness unique to a Yamato man. That's why it has a wonderful destructive power that's different from Tom Jones's bright, elephant-like 'Paon' shout; the balance there is incredibly tasteful. It's the eros of intelligence.
He is a huge fan of Gen Hoshino and was apparently apostcard contributorfor Gen Hoshino's radio show before his debut. His handle was apparently 'Moechu'. It sounds like a relative of Pikachu, doesn't it?
Now that you mention it, I can feel an affinity with Gen Hoshino's slightly darker-leaning songs like 'Pop Virus'.
