Due to my own mistake, an outrageous amount of national health insurance premiums was being deducted every month.
I made a fuss at the tax office and the city hall, and somehow managed to get the refund process started.
The money hasn't been deposited yet, but I'm already feeling anxious that my national health insurance premiums for the next fiscal year will definitely go up.
Even though the epic three-part series of sweat and tears has concluded, I've left some issues unresolved.
As I am currently unemployed, I can receive unemployment benefits (so-called unemployment insurance) until next June.
This does not count as income.
Of course, the possibility of finding a job before then is not zero.
However, my psychiatrist Dr. Y and my mentor Mr. M say that considering my physical condition and personality, early employment is not highly recommended.
Even if I have no income, if the income of Osamu (pseudonym, eldest son), who is in the same household, goes up, my national health insurance premiums will go up.
Even though Osamu doesn't even pay for living expenses.
If I were to become a dependent of Yumi (same, eldest daughter, lives with me but in a separate household), Osamu, or Susumu (same, second son, lives alone), I wouldn't have to pay health insurance premiums, and they could receive a dependent deduction.
Yumi wants zero contact with her mother.
Osamu hasn't spoken to me for many years.
As for Susumu, I barely see him once a year...
For now, wouldn't it be better for Osamu and me to separate our households?
Ugh, city hall again. A one-hour round trip on Kuro-mimi-go (my human-powered mamachari bike). I wonder if it's crowded. It's such a hassle. Maybe someday, when I feel like it...
On Thursday, November 7th, the first day of winter, it suddenly got cold and the wind was blowing hard (it was the first cold wind of the season!!), but I suddenly felt like going.
I didn't tell Osamu, though.
Before I could change my mind, I put on my first compact down jacket of the season and pedaled Kuro-mimi-go.
Even though it was a weekday afternoon, it was quite busy.
I was handed the application forms and examples, told that it didn't matter if I made mistakes or left things blank.

Once I filled it out appropriately, I got a number ticket. I waited there until I was called.
It looked empty, but the counters were full.
An Argentine man and his Japanese girlfriend were having a lot of trouble at the counter.

I was called in about 10 to 15 minutes.
As expected, there were mistakes and omissions, but I just corrected them with double lines as the staff member told me to.
I didn't even need a correction seal.
I don't think it took even 5 minutes from the time I said 'Please' until I was told 'That concludes the procedure.'
For identity verification, they just visually checked my driver's license since I was the one who went to the counter.
Osamu wasn't checked for anything.
Hmm, so I can do this on my own authority.
Well, I did it without asking, though.
What are the disadvantages of household separation?
I guess it's just that when requesting things like a certificate of residence, a power of attorney is required even if we live together.
We're both adults, so we can just do it ourselves when necessary.
In our 'mask family,' we've always done what we needed to do when the need arose.
When I got home, Osamu was there.
I wrote a note and gave it to him stating that we had separated our households as of today, that Osamu had also become a head of household, and that he should write his own name as the head of household on his year-end tax adjustment and employment contract.
He read it in silence and tossed it aside, so it seems he has no complaints.
We were already a mask family.
Now it's become even more bizarre.
Yumi and I are each the head of our own individual family registers.
Osamu and Susumu remain in their ex-husband H's family register.
Yumi, Osamu, Susumu, and I are all single-person households and heads of household.
In our home, the three of us—Yumi, Osamu, and I—live together, and all three of us have become heads of household.
Even though it's only on paper, I feel lighter.
Anxiety about the future?
If anything, I think, 'I can even receive welfare!!' and find it amusing (← because I can't actually receive it).
Having the same family register or the same household is no guarantee of peace of mind.
Conversely, you can build a relationship without anxiety regardless of the family register or household.
Just like our family, there are families that are scattered even if they have the same surname, and there are families that are connected by strong bonds even if their surnames are different.
A friend of mine is a family of four.
She has a different surname from her partner.
She also has a different surname from her daughters.
There are three surnames.
There are also three nameplates.
They are a very, very close-knit family.
I'm quite envious.
My family is a one-way, unrequited love mask family where my passionate feelings are never returned.
If you include Susumu who lives alone, all four of us are heads of household.
In our home where three people live together, there are three heads of household. (11/6)
