Living a cost-effective mochi lifestyle
The 1kg pack of 'Pure Cut Mochi' I bought at Gyomu Super for 335 yen (excluding tax) is actually quite delicious. To prepare it, I take the mochi out of the bag, rinse it with water, place it on a non-stick mochi tray, and heat it in the microwave for 30 to 40 seconds. After that, I sprinkle a teaspoon of 'aonori' (dried green seaweed) and a little 'hana-katsuo' (dried bonito flakes) over the mochi, and season it to taste with 'tartar sauce' or 'ketchup' bought at Gyomu Super, along with some 'low-sodium soy sauce' if I like.
I don't buy rice at the grocery store, but 'raw cut mochi' is convenient, tasty, and cheap. Calculating with the 8% tax, it comes to 362 yen (including tax) per 1kg.
※ Non-stick mochi trays are sold at 100-yen shops and similar stores. The attached image is Image. There are several types available.
