From the Days of PC Communications to the Current Digital Era

Today, October 29th, is the 54th birthday of the Internet.

It is said to be the day in 1969 when the first communication took place on ARPANET, the prototype of the Internet.

Thanks to the Internet network, it has now
become a foundation for connecting with people all over the world.

What I remember from my childhood is
the sight of adults placing a telephone handset onto an acoustic coupler
to engage in PC communications.

At the time, I was attending a computer class and learning the BASIC language.

There were many types of computers, and it was a time when many manufacturers were entering the market, such as MSX (Panasonic, SONY, CASIO, etc.), X6800 (SHARP), PC-8001 (NEC), and FM-7 (Fujitsu).

is the only phrase from a commercial that remains in my ears.

Since it is a memory from long ago, I don't remember what kind of commercial it was (laughs).

And then, with Windows 95,
my Internet life began.

I fondly remember writing comments timidly on Nifty forums.
By the way, this Nifty forum service ended in 2007.

I have witnessed the constant acceleration of Internet connections, from dial-up to ISDN, ADSL, and then to fiber optics.

Perhaps it is because I have witnessed
the Internet evolving at such a tremendous pace ever since its dawn.

That is why I feel that constant change is the 'norm'.

Now,
rather than neighborhood relationships,
we can have deep interactions with people we met on social media.

We can celebrate each other's birthdays,
talk to each other on voice apps,
and even have online drinking parties.

It has become a world where physical distance has shrunk significantly.

Going back and forth between the real world and the metaverse.
I am excited that we are gradually shifting toward such a world.

The shape of schools is changing rapidly,

and the role of teachers,

in a world that is constantly changing,
is what we are living in.
