Brewing Ginger Tea on a Chilly Rainy Morning
It is raining again today.
When I opened the curtains, a cool breeze flowed into the room.
The term "tsuyu-samu" (chilly rainy season) suddenly crossed my mind.
It has been a while since I felt this way.
Lately, it has been so hot that it felt like summer, and I barely even noticed when the rainy season began.
My body is remembering that unique seasonal sensation.
That is right, this is the chill of the rainy season.
That ambiguous atmosphere where it feels cold, yet if you warm yourself up a little, it becomes humid and muggy.
With just a thin blanket, I might feel a bit chilly in the middle of the night.
But if I wear long sleeves and move around, I wonder if I will get too hot.
I find myself wavering over such things, but I think there is something nice about savoring the changing seasons through the sensations of my own body.
While lost in such thoughts, I brew my favorite tea.
I add plenty of grated ginger and a spoonful of honey.
I enjoy the aroma rising with the steam and take a slow sip.
It feels wonderful as the warmth spreads slowly from the depths of my stomach.
As I wrap both hands around the warm mug and gaze at the scenery wet with raindrops, thoughts of future pleasures suddenly come to mind.
Will I be able to see the magical glow of fireflies this year?
Once things settle down a bit, perhaps I will go out to see the beautiful hydrangeas.
In the quiet room, I listen intently to the sound of rain hitting the ground.
Another day of commuting with an umbrella...
But this time, I think I will enjoy the season by listening to the sound of the rain hitting my umbrella.
