#Weekly Short-Short Note: Letters from the Night
I am sending you a letter from the night.
To my beloved Anastasia,
I am writing this letter while looking up at the stars shining above the trenches.
Are you taking good care of the teddy bear I gave you before we parted?
This bear is me; try talking to it whenever you feel lonely.
Are you crying from loneliness every night?
I wish I could turn into the wind right now, cross the sunflower fields, and knock on the window of the room where you sleep.
To tell you that I am alive.
The silence of the night is the only time I can truly be myself.
And it is the precious time I spend thinking of you.
I have had enough of this killing.
Instead of a gun, I want to offer a single flower.
To ask, 'Don't you also have someone you love?'
Winter will soon come to the sunflower fields.
A dark, cold, and heartbreaking season.
I want to chat with you, Anastasia, while drinking milk tea by the fireplace.
What should we name our child when one is born?
What kind of flowers should we plant in the garden?
I want to talk about trivial things.
That is all I need.
I write a letter to you every night.
Even though these letters have no destination,
I am sure the wind will carry them to you.
Goodnight, Anastasia.
Believing that the day we can meet again with smiles will surely come.
From your loving Nicholas.
P.S.
May a world without conflict come to pass.
