[Poem] The Moon's Gaze
Long ago
I dug my nails in a little
and peeled off the moon that was stuck to the sky
Thinking back now
it had a texture
like a contact lens
and the smooth, slick moon
held between my fingers
trembled even though there was no wind
The moon, casting supple, glowing golden threads,
I grew to hate for no reason
and wanting to stain that gaze
with my finger
I crushed its flat brightness
and let fall a single drop of light ink
Once more
the moon I stuck back onto the sky
bore the marks of my fingers
The light ink
bled into those marks
On a full moon night
I
recall the treatment
I gave you
The light ink I let fall with a plop
became a shadow
projected onto the shining screen
and the radiance
seemed as if it were now
being cast from within the shadow
Yet, your
clear, penetrating gaze remains unchanged,
and from those supple, glowing golden threads
there is no escape
They capture me
entwine around me
my past and my future
and
pierce through my present
shaping who I am
