#Rainbow Creation Club Theme 'Reading' ~The Labyrinth of Lost Stories~

Niji Clip-san I am participating in the project by.

The theme is 'Harvest Moon' or 'Reading'

I love reading, so I would like to create something with the theme of reading.

And I am grateful to Niji Clip-san for preparing such wonderful illustrations.

I will be using the first illustration.

It really sparked my imagination.

The Labyrinth of Lost Stories

As the cold wind signaling the end of autumn blew past the window, Maya found a book shining quietly in a corner of the school library.

Its dust-covered binding was decaying, yet it held a strange, irresistible pull over her.

The moment her fingers gently touched the cover, a small rustle ran through the cold air.

The entrance to a world of stories, entwining like mist, was like the door to a labyrinth.

As she read on, Maya found herself wandering into the story without even realizing it.

Beyond the pages lay a locked castle, mysterious doors, and the figure of a boy trapped all alone.

The castle seemed to change shape the more she read, never allowing her to reach the same ending twice.

Maya realized.

Every time she opened it, the story created a new labyrinth, and her own decisions made the maze even more complex.

A labyrinth that vanished when closed and demanded she search for a new exit when opened, it held her heart captive.

'If I get trapped in this book, I might never be able to escape.'

As those words echoed in her heart, Maya, caught between fear and excitement, took one step after another into the abyss of the story.

That day, Maya headed to the school library as she always did.

Deep in her heart, the sensation of being captured by that mysterious book still smoldered.

However, she never picked up the book again, nor did she step back into the labyrinth of the story.

This was because, although the book should have certainly been on the shelf, it was nowhere to be seen now.

'Maybe someone checked it out.'

Her modest doubt quickly turned into great anxiety.

She felt that the disappearance of that book was not merely a coincidence, but perhaps served some deeper purpose.

After school, Maya talked with her friend Shiori.

Shiori had a bit of a sixth sense and had always been interested in such mysterious phenomena.

'Maya, that book isn't just a book. Perhaps the story itself is alive. Like a creature that changes its form based on the heart of the reader.'

At Shiori's words, Maya's heart stirred.

The countless endings within that book might have been reacting to someone's thoughts or emotions.

'But there's nothing I can do. Every time that story changed, my own heart was shaken. It was as if the story was testing me.'

'Testing you? But that might be proof that you became a part of the story, Maya.'

Shiori said with a smile.

A few days later, Maya found something strange in the corner of the library again.

From the empty shelf where that book had been, a single piece of old paper was peeking out.

When she picked it up, she saw it was a hand-drawn map.

It depicted a medieval castle and a maze in great detail.

And the words "No Exit" were written in red.

"What is this...?"

Maya picked up the map and pictured the castle of the story in her mind.

What was clearly understood was that she could not reach the truth unless she escaped this labyrinth together with the boy trapped in that book.

Night fell, and Maya recalled the fragments of that book once again in the darkness.

That the "last page" would be completed by her own "sentence".

The pressure of being involved in the creation of a story mingled with the anticipation of the unknown.

The next day, she headed to the library again and steeled her resolve in the quiet, empty space.

"I will enter this labyrinth once more. And I will write my own story."

The book was nowhere to be found, but she did not give up.

This was because she felt that the labyrinth was no longer just a physical book, but existed within her own inner self.

That getting lost in the labyrinth reflected the fears and conflicts deep within her heart.

There, Maya made a decision.

"I will find myself within this labyrinth once again."

That night, Maya stood in that castle again in her dream.

She felt the coldness of the stone pavement under her feet and walked through the dark, fog-filled corridor.

The maze changed its shape day by day, toying with her, but she gradually understood that "moving forward without running away" was the key to the story.

The boy she met in the depths of the labyrinth had once been the protagonist of that book's story.

But he was no longer a boy; he was a "symbol of lost souls" trapped in the labyrinth of the story, wandering forever.

Maya speaks to him.

"Let's stop wandering now. I will make a path. Come with me, and let's get out of this labyrinth."

It was the cry of her heart, and the beginning of a journey to find the exit of the labyrinth.

Gradually, her words and feelings seeped into the walls of the labyrinth, and the solidified darkness began to fade.

And then, the moment arrived when the cycle of the repeatedly occurring ending was broken.

Waking from the dream, Maya felt that she had changed.

The labyrinth of stories had not disappeared.

However, a new light had been lit within her heart, turning into the courage to move forward without fear of getting lost.

The next day, that very book had indeed returned to the bookshelf in the school library.

However, a new title had emerged on its cover.

"The Labyrinth of Lost Stories—And the Path of Light"

Maya picked up the book with a smile.

She was no longer afraid of getting lost in a story.

Because she could rewrite the story with her own will and choose the ending of the future.

As she turned the page of a new story, Maya took a new step forward as the protagonist of her own story.

From the day Maya held the book with a new determination in her heart, the world began to change little by little.

At school, the scenery and people's expressions that she had overlooked until now appeared vividly, and new colors were added to the small moments of daily life.

One day, during a break, Maya was sitting in a seat by the window.

Her eyes caught a book that someone happened to be reading.

Written there was a passage from that very "labyrinth" I had once wandered into.

Smiling slightly to herself, Maya approached and spoke to the owner of the book.

That person, too, was one of the "readers" captivated by the story.

"Did you also wander into the labyrinth of that book?"

When asked that, Maya realized for the first time that this story was not something to be experienced alone, but a journey that connects with the hearts of others.

She learned that similar mysterious books existed quietly not only in schools and libraries, but also in the corners of small second-hand bookstores and cafes in town.

The labyrinth of stories was not a closed world at all, but one facet of a vast world where the stories of various people intersect.

Feeling that expanse, Maya decided to unravel the mysteries lurking within it.

The ever-changing endings reflected the thoughts and wishes of each individual reader.

That is precisely why stories never end, but instead change form, sometimes saving someone's heart, and other times presenting them with trials.

A few weeks later, Maya carried a new book and visited the library again.

This time, there was no fear.

She was no longer wandering into the labyrinth of stories, but was instead trying to illuminate the path of the labyrinth with her own hands.

And above all, she had found a treasure during that journey.

It was the strength to face her own heart and write her own story.

The story is not over yet.

As long as Maya and her friends continue to write new chapters, the labyrinth will continue to shine with their imagination and hope.

Her story, too, was the entrance to a new labyrinth that would continue to evolve from here on out.

If you all happen to find this storybook, please do pick it up.

This labyrinth changes its shape with every individual's heart, and your own story may eventually be carved into it as well.

The beginning of a new journey, where an ending no one knows awaits, is here.
