Authenticity is Born from Dreams That Get Mocked

Hello, this is Maru.

Through my experience of changing from someone who was super negative, I share the secrets to living comfortably and how to find your own authenticity.

Yesterday, I talked about the time Kazuyoshi Miura spoke about his dreams.

This is what his coach at the time said to him:

“There is no such thing as 100% for a human, but for you, it’s 99% impossible.”

Kazu was able to stick to his dream because he thought,
“So what?”
(though he didn't actually say it out loud).

However, in reality, I think there are many people
who can't do that.

“There’s no way that dream will come true.”
“You shouldn't do things that are impossible.”
“You might regret it later.”

If someone says things like that to you,
you’d naturally shrink back, wouldn't you?

When I told my mother,
“I want to be able to write,”

she said, “You’re the child who used to make your parents write your summer book reports, so what are you talking about now…”

It was my fault for making my parents do my homework, but when I was told this, I thought,
“That’s right. I’ve been bad at writing since I was a child…”

and I felt discouraged. I worried that the time I was about to spend on myself

might be a waste…

Thinking that made me afraid.

Even when I told my friends,
they said things like, “Wait, are you serious!?”

However, since I had already hit rock bottom three times by then,
I didn't give up. (Because I didn't want to have any regrets later.)

It takes courage to push past the voices of those around you,
though.

But if you just follow them,
you end up losing yourself.

Thanks to sticking with it without being swayed by those around me,
I’ve been able to see what my own authenticity is.

So, even if you get mocked,
or even if you aren't understood,
I think that has absolutely nothing to do with it.

If you want to make that dream come true,
please take action to make it happen.

Even if you are mocked,
you will not become a fool,
so please give it a try.

Losing your dream is many times scarier,
so please give it a try.

Because those who make their dreams come true are
only those who tried to become the person they wanted to be.
