Things You Lose When You Search for Meaning
Hello, this is Maru.
The world is on winter break.
Hearing the laughter of children in the neighborhood makes me smile too.
They are playing tag, throwing balls, and doing all sorts of things.
I heard an adult passing by whisper, "Is there any point in doing that?"
I don't know...
To me, that sounded lonely.
Since everyone thinks differently,
I think it's fine to choose not to do things
that you feel have "no meaning."
However, I feel that if you are always searching for meaning,
you end up wandering aimlessly.
That is because I have seen many people
who have become unable to enjoy life
because they are searching for the meaning of being born or the meaning of life.
When you start something new,
there are times when you don't really know why you are doing it at first, right?
I practice calligraphy, but
it started because I just wanted to try holding a brush.
To a child's eyes, it looked interesting.
I started out of curiosity, but
as I continued, I began to feel
joy and a sense of fulfillment.
I think that's how things usually go.
Rather than searching for the meaning of doing something,
it is important to just try doing it.
As you do it, you find meaning,
and I feel that it enriches your life.
Besides,
if you only do things you think have meaning,
life seems like it would be dull.
If you prioritize efficiency,
you become unable to do things like taking a little detour
or trying something new,
or doing things differently than usual.
That wouldn't be fun,
and you would end up spending your days
without any change.
"Even if it seems completely unrelated,
if you give it your all, it will eventually have meaning."
I realized I want to be the kind of person who can say that.
Thank you for reading until the end.
