The Important Words That Changed Me

Hello, I'm Maru.

Through my experience of changing from someone who was super negative, I share the secrets to living comfortably and how to gain a sense of self.

There is a phrase I hold very dear, and
it was introduced by Mr. Shirai
as a phrase that really resonated with him.

“Don't make the right choice; make the path you choose the right one.”

This is a phrase that completely changed my values.

I still remember the shock I felt
when I was taught this by my mentor.

I had been searching for the right answer for a long time.

That was because I didn't want to get hurt anymore.

I had been hurt so much that
I didn't want to add any new wounds
to my already wounded heart.

But even though I was trying to avoid it,
for some reason, the wounds kept increasing.

I was trying not to fail,
trying not to take the long way around,
but for some reason, I kept losing my way.

Even though I was choosing the path that wouldn't embarrass me,
my heart never felt clear.

When you are living your life,
you encounter crossroads many times, don't you?

When thinking about which way to go,
the path everyone else is taking
feels safer.

I end up thinking that must be the right answer.

Because I felt I was pathetic.

I thought it was better to follow everyone else's opinion
rather than listen to my own pathetic and shameful self.

But if my heart is pointing in a different direction,
I want to try moving in that direction.

If I'm hesitant,
I want to choose the path that makes my heart excited.

You know, when you were a child,
you've gone down an unknown path
saying, “You'll understand once you go there!”

“You'll understand once you try it!”
“You'll understand once you test it out!”

That's how I used to choose the path that made me excited,
just as my heart felt.

I think it's surely the same thing.

So, it's okay not to look for the right answer.

Since everyone is different,
it is okay for our paths to be different too.

You just need to make the path you chose the right one♪
