Misinterpreting 'It's okay to be yourself' can leave you stuck
Hello, this is Maru.
"It's okay to be yourself."
When I first heard these words,
I felt like I was going to cry.
I had never thought it was okay to be myself,
and I believed that such a thing
was not allowed.
Besides,
they say that things go better
when you are just yourself!
Ever since then,
even when I was feeling down,
"It's okay to be myself."
Even when I failed,
"It's okay to be myself."
That's what I've been telling myself.
Wow, it's so easy♡
What a wonderful phrase!
So, I went around telling everyone else,
"It's okay to be yourself."
But then, I started to wonder about something.
"I haven't changed at all, have I..."
I felt good and didn't notice at all, but
it seems I had been
interpreting the phrase "It's okay to be yourself"
in a way that was convenient for me.
One thing is that
being yourself
does not mean "it's okay to stay as you are right now."
In reality,
it means [become your true self].
I think it means,
"Don't be afraid, acknowledge your true self ψ(`∇´)ψ"
The other thing is
that I didn't know what my true self was like.
I thought my current self was my true self,
but that was a mistake.
Because I was bound by assumptions and denying myself,
my "true self" was pushed into the background
and became invisible.
"It's okay to be yourself."
These words are healing.
However, if you're not careful,
you won't know your true self,
and your unchanging days will continue.
Your current self is an unchanging self.
When you become able to accept
the part of yourself that is self-critical,
you can regain your true self♪
