When your perspective changes, life becomes 10 times richer
Hello, this is Maru.
Today, I'd like to talk about how when your perspective changes,
life becomes 100 times richer.
When I was a child, I hated Japanese class.
Especially the "poetry" lessons.
They weren't interesting at all.
Even when asked, "What was the author trying to convey?"
I just thought,
I wish they would ask the author themselves.
That childhood experience lingered,
and even as an adult, I never
engaged with poetry.
However,
I read an article by Ryoyan
and was shocked.
"Japanese class... poetry... it's so interesting!"
I never dreamed
that a day would come when I would find it interesting.
My elementary school teacher
"It's okay to have any opinion."
taught me that, but
in the end, the adult's opinion was absolute,
wasn't it.
Since the teacher would slap us if they got angry,
I remember thinking that
it was best to be a good child and not make waves
so as not to say anything unnecessary.
This "being a good child" was the worst,
and I grew up nicely
into a person who doesn't have their own thoughts.
Not having your own opinion might be easy, but
aren't people who grew up being swayed
having trouble now?
I had become unable to
understand my own opinions.
Because I didn't understand,
I couldn't communicate them either.
It feels like there is a police officer in my head,
"So I don't get scolded"
"So I don't say anything wrong"
watching to see if my opinion is correct.
To break through that barrier,
it has to be the perfect correct answer, so
I became unable to
put what I was thinking into words.
Even for someone like me,
as I answered Ryoyan's questions,
"That is XX."
I was able to come up with my own answer.
"Oh! I can understand it too!"
"I understood"
"I did it"
The experience of
is something that makes you happy no matter how old you get ♪
Once I understood how to read and enjoy poetry,
the assumption that "poetry = boring"
was removed,
and it changed to
"poetry = interesting".
Rather than seeking to be right,
I felt that enjoying the process of thinking for oneself
adds more color to life.
Because the mind is free,
we must be the ones to
set it free.
Thank you for reading
until the end.
