The 'Treasure' from Supporters is Making a Big Difference!
Flood prevention and shelf building for the feed shed
Good morning, everyone!
The precious lumber I received the other day from a supporter in Yawatahama is, to me, truly a
'mountain of treasure'.Yesterday, I put that lumber to good use and worked up a sweat improving the feed shed!
I have already taken measures like repairing the roof and installing underdrainage to improve water drainage, but I cannot let my guard down and think, 'Now I can rest easy!'
That is because this place is
one of the regions with the highest rainfall in Japan
.Due to typhoons or sudden heavy rains, there is no telling when this feed shed might suffer flood damage! The feed is essential for sustaining the lives of the chickens that will be arriving soon.If it were to get wet and be ruined, it would literally become a
'matter of life and death'
for me, as I am currently managing everything on a limited budget.
I feel that the previous flooding was a sharp lesson from Mother Nature, telling me,
'It's dangerous, so prepare while you still can.'
.

So, with the determination to 'absolutely protect this precious feed!', I decided to build a space to safely store the feed 50 centimeters above the shed floor.
The lumber entrusted to me by the supporter has been reborn as a reliable foundation to protect the feed from rain, and it is truly playing a major role as a 'shining treasure'!
Furthermore, since some of the lumber I received included excellent boards, I used them to install functional shelves as well.

On the right side after entering the feed shed is the 'storage shelf for feed ingredients'.

In the front is the mixing area (the space for preparing the chickens' food), which includes a 'shelf for scales and thermo-hygrometers' for precise measuring.

And on the left side is the 'shelf for the chickens' daily food' made by blending those ingredients.
I carefully designed the workflow so that tasks can flow from right to left.
This has made it possible to create accurate menus for the chickens according to the temperature and humidity of each day.
In addition, I am making effective use of the wall space to make daily tasks smoother.
Since cleaning after blending the feed is essential, I installed 'hooks to hang brooms and dustpans' in a spot where they can be grabbed quickly.

I also installed a 'shelf for tools' so I can immediately respond to daily repairs in the chicken coop, as well as 'hooks to hang raincoats and clothing' which are essential for working on rainy days.
Having what you need, right when you need it.
It may be a small detail, but when you consider the accumulation of daily tasks, creating this kind of environment becomes very important.
With the spirit of 'making the most of what you have,' I have been able to turn your warm kindness into this form, gaining great peace of mind and a user-friendly space.
Thank you so much.
In 7 days, the stars of this forest, the chickens, will arrive.
The days of trial and error will continue, but I will keep racking my brain and making improvements as I move forward one step at a time.
I would be happy if you could continue to watch over me warmly!
Have a great day, everyone.
