Professional Baseball: Traces of Dreams of Warriors - I wrote this last week #36 -
Hello everyone. I am Naseka.
I define myself as a philosopher and book reviewer.
I define myself as such.
On the day I am writing this,
the 7th game of the Major League
World Series (WS) was
broadcast on television,
and thanks to Yoshinobu Yamamoto's spirited consecutive pitching,
the Dodgers achieved a dramatic comeback victory
and grasped the crown of world champions.
A few days before that, in the Japan Series,
the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks
defeated the Hanshin Tigers to become the best in Japan.
Although the Japan Series ended 4-1,
showing a slight difference in strength,
4 out of the 5 games were close matches decided by 1 run,
so I think it was quite worth watching.
If you take a slightly cynical view,
both the Dodgers and the Hawks
can be called teams that spent a lot of money
to gather excellent players,
but even so, just gathering excellent players
does not guarantee a win,
as we can see by looking back at baseball history.
Here, I would like to honestly acknowledge
the players who demonstrated their ability and achieved results,
as well as the managers and staff, and praise them.
Even so, for Yamamoto to have
won 3 games, including consecutive appearances,
in a best-of-seven series,
wasn't that a historic performance?
Speaking of such historic series,
for me, it is this book that depicts the 1992-1993
Japan Series ↓
With many extra-inning and 1-run games,
the same teams went to a 7th game
for two years in a row,
a two-year battle still renowned as the greatest Japan Series in history.
No matter how many times I read it, it is deeply moving,
and it is a book I would recommend
even to those who are not professional baseball fans.
Returning to the topic at the beginning,
in this World Series as well,
I am sure that various thoughts and reflections
were swirling among the players and staff.
As a baseball lover and book lover,
I really wished that it would be turned into a book
in the same way.
Once again, to everyone involved with the Dodgers,
congratulations on your WS victory!
