Will August Be a Turning Point!?
Hello everyone. I am Naseka.
I define myself as a philosopher, book reviewer, and essayist.
I define myself as such.
I dove into the world of note at the end of 2023, and
it has already been seven and a half months...
The reason I started note was that
I was harboring doubts about continuing to live as a company employee,
and I happened to see a program
introduce the idea that "the articles you write can sell."
However, I had almost no experience with blogs or social media.
For the first three months or so, let alone making a profit,
my free posts weren't even
being read much at all.
Fortunately, I saw signs of progress before I lost heart,
so I was able to recover
from a low-altitude flight on the verge of crashing, but
even after that, regarding monetization,
I couldn't even find a hint
as to what I should do.
What should I sell in a paid article...
Even if I were to sell paid articles,
I don't have any know-how
that I can use to compete.
Therefore, until then, I was just winging it.
I would first write an article as usual, and then
"Maybe I'll make this one paid"
I ended up setting prices based on mere whims.
For better or worse,
I was able to get a few purchases,
but I still hadn't grasped
any solid sense of success.
"What on earth should I be selling?"
I have seen articles about "how to sell"
and techniques before,
but I have never had a lightbulb moment
regarding the point of "what I should sell."
* The article that became a big hint at this time is
introduced in the "Today's Recommendation" corner at the end.
"An article that is useful to someone (a reader)" –
that just means know-how, right?
While I was trapped by that assumption
and kept thinking, a light suddenly shone on me.
This was in late July.
I am a "Philosopher of the Reiwa Era"
"Come to think of it, I
call myself a 'Philosopher of the Reiwa Era', but what kind of era
is 'Reiwa' in the first place?"
At one point, I suddenly thought about it.
* Since this tweet was posted later,
the posting dates are out of order.
You might say, "Why are you asking that now?"
but embarrassingly, I had
lost sight of my own core message.
To be precise, while I had my own identity as a
"book reviewer" and "essayist",
my core identity as a "philosopher"
was starting to lose its focus.
And after asking myself questions about that proposition,
I arrived at a certain hypothesis.
Philosophy is, above all else, about "thinking."
One approach to this is "reading philosophical books."
However, when it comes to reading, let alone philosophical books,
for the average person,
the psychological hurdle seems high.
I read manga too, and
I often think through manga as well.
In this Reiwa era,
"the era of time performance" (as I see it), shouldn't there be a path that leads to philosophy through the accessibility of manga?
This article is a summary of that.
And from this lead article,
I felt a pretty good response,
and finally released my paid article series, which is the real test.
(In addition to paid articles,
I have also made them a membership benefit.)
Currently two posts are up (planned to be posted at a pace of one per week)
For me, this is the first"article written with the intention to sell."
The reason I chose "Oshi no Ko" as the first subject was
its public recognition and buzz,
the fact that I was hooked on it,
and above all,
the fact that inspiration
kept coming to me as I read it.
A response I could feel for the first time
Until now, even with paid articles,
they wouldn't sell immediately after release, leaving me disappointed,
and by the time I had even forgotten my disappointment,
they would sell just a little bit.
However, with this article, both posts
were purchased
on the very day they were released.
Of course, the number of sales
might not be considered large at all.
But, while this might be a small step for a successful pioneer,
for me, it is a great leap forward.
July was a month of worrying and thinking until I found a hint,
and August is a month where I can feel the response to that.
Will this August be a turning point for my note?
I want to continue working energetically
and observe where it leads.
