Things I've Bought That I'm Glad I Did as an Active Frontend Engineer: "BenQ ScreenBar" | 2024.10.24
Hello, good evening.
Thank you for opening this article.
Following my previous post, here is another introduction to things I've bought that I'm glad I did.
Even though I say "as a frontend engineer,"
I have chosen items that I think can be recommended to anyone who uses a computer for work.
BenQ ScreenBar Monitor Light
BenQ ScreenBar Review: A monitor light that is easy on the eyes and creates a comfortable work environment
I think everyone has experienced eye fatigue from long hours of desk work. Personally, there were times when the lighting conditions didn't suit me, which increased the strain on my eyes. That's when I found the "BenQ ScreenBar." This LED light that attaches to your monitor has dramatically improved my work environment.
Space-saving design keeps your desk tidy
Stand lights placed on a desk tend to take up space, but the BenQ ScreenBar has a simple design that just hangs on the monitor. You can effectively utilize the space on your desk, making it perfect for small workspaces. Installation is also very easy; you just fix it to the monitor with a clip, so no tools are required. It also has a certain amount of weight, so it feels stable and is structured not to move easily.
Asymmetric optical design reduces reflection and is easy on the eyes
The biggest appeal of the BenQ ScreenBar is its unique "asymmetric optical design." Thanks to this design, light does not reflect off the monitor screen and only illuminates your workspace. This allows you to ensure sufficient brightness around your desk without compromising the visibility of the screen. When I started using it, I was surprised that there was no light reflecting on the screen while working at night. With the general desk lights I had used until then, the light would sometimes reflect and make the screen hard to see, but the ScreenBar solved that problem.
Auto-dimming function for optimal brightness at all times
It is troublesome to manually adjust the brightness every time the ambient light changes, but the ScreenBar's built-in light sensor adjusts it automatically. With this feature, it maintains the optimal brightness according to the ambient light, which can significantly reduce eye strain. I was frequently adjusting the lighting from evening to night, so this auto-dimming function was a huge help.
Functional beauty and ease of use
The design of the BenQ ScreenBar is simple and sophisticated, and it looks very smart when attached to a monitor. It feels integrated with the monitor I use and matches the interior of my room. Also, the operation is very intuitive, and settings can be easily changed using the touch sensor or dimming switch. The fact that you can adjust the angle of the light itself, allowing you to freely adjust the brightness of your workspace, is also a plus.
Points of concern
The only drawback is that it can interfere with a webcam when you use one. Especially if you have a camera placed on top of the monitor, you may need to adjust the position of the light and the camera. Also, since it is USB-powered, you need to be aware that the light will turn off when you turn off your computer. I was able to avoid this problem by using a USB adapter.
Summary
The BenQ ScreenBar is an excellent product for reducing eye strain while making your work environment more comfortable. Its space-saving design, auto-dimming function, and eye-friendly asymmetric optical design will be a great help to those who work for long hours. Since I started using this light, I have felt less eye fatigue and my work efficiency has improved. I highly recommend this item to anyone who wants to reduce the burden of desk work.
If this is well-received, I would like to introduce more recommendations.
See you again.
[Postscript: July 2026]
Since this article is still being read quite a while after its publication, I will add a little bit of information.
The ScreenBar series has since expanded its lineup, and you can now choose higher-end models such as the "Halo," which comes with a wireless remote control and auto-dimming, and the "Pro," which is also compatible with curved monitors. The original ScreenBar introduced in this article is also still on sale.
I have carefully compared the three models in another article to help you decide which one to choose, so if you are unsure, please refer to that.
If you found this article helpful, I would be happy if you could give it a like or follow me. I will continue to write about desk environments.
