Reading Diary: 'Illustrated Guide to the Rokkaku Clan and Kannonji Castle' (Kazuyuki Shintani, Ebisu Kosho Shuppan)
2024, I hope I encounter many good books this year as well.
Well then, I'm starting the year with this illustrated guide.
It is easy to read, with many illustrations such as photos and maps, and a structure of one topic per spread.
I picked it up with the casual thought of 'I should stock up on books to kill time over the New Year holidays,' but it was so interesting that I read through it quickly.
When reading history books about the Muromachi and Sengoku periods, the Rokkaku clan appears in fragments. I think this book is perfect as an introductory guide to the Rokkaku clan, as it helps you grasp their history.
The Kuwanomidera Engi Emaki (Illustrated Scroll of the Origin of Kuwanomi Temple) is included in color, which makes me happy as an art lover.
A part that left a personal impression on me was the page titled 'Was the Rokkaku clan the first to enact the Rakuichi-Rakuza (free market) decree in Japan?'
So, the Rakuichi-Rakuza decree... it wasn't exactly an innovative law that broke down old customs, was it? (^_^;)
I really need to keep updating my knowledge.
