A project to eat at every municipality in the Sorachi General Subprefectural Bureau. This time, I have arbitrarily named it
Yubari and the Coal Mine Group and will be focusing on Yubari City, Bibai City, Mikasa City, and Naie Town. I hope you will read on as I introduce various delicious things I found.
Yubari City
Yubari Melon is what Yubari City is known for, but there are other things you should definitely try eating.
Kurishita Shokudo

Yubari specialty curry soba. Actually, the history of curry soba is older than curry udon. For curry with a Japanese-style dashi base, you must order not only the soba but also white rice. It goes so well together...
Yubari Melon Dome

Yubari Melon is known as a high-end melon. However, you can enjoy it casually here. This is a privilege for those who travel to the production area.
Bibai City
Speaking of Bibai, it's Bibai Yakitori. Hokkaido is a yakitori kingdom that is a cut above the rest, but Bibai has other food that I'm a bit curious about.
Shirakaba Chaya

A restaurant famous for "Torimeshi" cooked with chicken dashi and meat. It's great on its own, or as a side to udon or ramen. The beauty of torimeshi is its ability to be both a lead and a supporting player.
Juraku

This is "Zarichi". It is fried pork, and there is a theory that the word "Zarichi (Zariji)" is the etymological origin of "Zangi." It is a wonderful dish with well-seasoned meat. It goes well with white rice, but this restaurant's "Clay Pot Pork Fried Rice" is also good.
Mikasa City
Mikasa, the city of coal mines and Bon Odori dance. Its nature is what produces the bounty of the mountains.
Yunomoto Onsen Ryokan

The specialty of this inn is, without a doubt, the "Aigamo (duck) hot pot". The rustic soup creates a rich aroma when it mixes with the fat. Then, you enjoy it with udon noodles. Finally, you make rice porridge... it is the ultimate meal where you drink up every last drop of the broth.
Takashimaya Shokudo

The massive zangi (fried chicken) is their specialty. It is no exaggeration to say that the meat juices that overflow when you bite into it are meant for eating with white rice. You can enjoy the rotation of meat juices and cabbage.
Naie Town
Naie Town, home to the famous cherry blossom spot "Niwayama." It is a bit of a shame to just pass through it on Route 12.
Noraneko Manma

A restaurant with a diverse menu. The names of dishes like curry, pasta, and pizza are also "Fastball" and "Iai (quick-draw sword technique)", each with a unique twist. The labor-intensive dishes are exquisite, and the manager's conversation is also very flavorful.
Kikyouya

Udon with aburakasu. The umami of the aburakasu that seeps into the soup stimulates the appetite. The contrast is delightful, as the soup itself has a refreshing taste.
Sorachi is the history of coal mining
So, since "Yubari and the Coal Mine Group" became a large category, it will continue next time as well. Next up are the relatively northern areas of Ashibetsu, Kamisunagawa, Utashinai, and Akabira. Stay tuned.
