Good news for fans of "Abunai Deka"
I was surprised.
I never expected De Agostini to release the show below as a DVD magazine.
The bi-weekly "Katte ni Shiyagare Hey! Brother DVD Collection" launched on Tuesday, August 26th. It was broadcast on the Nippon TV network from October 1989 to March 1990.
Perhaps because it is a short series of 11 issues (planned), the inaugural issue is priced at the regular price of 1,999 yen including tax. Please note that it is not a few hundred yen like usual.
I have never seen the actual show. I only remember seeing the program title in the TV listings of the newspaper when I was a child. But I know the opening theme. I encountered it on a certain video site a few years ago and played it over and over, thinking, "It feels dated, but it's cool!!" I think it's worth 1,999 yen just to be able to enjoy that one minute on DVD whenever I want.
It was produced by Central Arts, the same company as "Abunai Deka," and many of the staff members are the same. That makes sense. Of all the dramas I have seen so far, the opening of "Abunai Deka" is my favorite, and while this one has a different taste, I feel that a stylish atmosphere and adult humor run through it as well.
The stars, Kyohei Shibata and Toru Nakamura, are main cast members of "Abunai Deka." Shizuo Chujo, who played Section Chief Kondo, also appears. In the final episode of "Motto Abunai Deka," which aired from October 1988 to March of the following year, there were many scenes where Kyohei and Toru worked together, and I wonder if Chujo's grumbling like "Don't pair those two up!" was perhaps looking ahead to this work.
If I recall correctly, Kyohei's character is a freelance reporter, and Toru's is a law school graduate waiting to pass the bar. Their father, played by Chujo, is supposed to be a lawyer. As a bookstore clerk who writes and is a law school graduate, I am very interested at this point. It also made me want to watch the "Abunai Deka" DVDs again after a long time.
Please purchase it at your local bookstore.
