Meeting Someone Who Shares the Same Sorrow: The "Emotional Support" Connected by a Pediatrician | Kotori Diary | Episode 15
I never imagined that the presence of someone who knows the same pain could support my heart so much.
This is a story about a small, miracle-like encounter connected by a pediatrician.
It was a little while after I started working at the city office.
I received a referral from a pediatrician saying, "There is someone who needs support."
A doctor connecting someone to the administration and support organizations—
That was the first time I learned of such a system.
I was genuinely impressed by how well medical care and welfare were collaborating.
Since I was in the welfare department, I believe the contact came through the staff in charge of mothers and children.
Through the hands of many people, I met that person.
She was someone who had lost her husband to malignant melanoma during her pregnancy.
The same illness as mine, and around the same age.
I don't remember the details of when we first met, but
she was kind, somewhat calm, and someone I felt at ease with while talking.
I never thought there would be someone so close who had gone through the same experience.
Hearing that she was giving birth and raising her child in a land completely unknown to her,
I remember feeling that she was very independent.
We didn't talk about anything deep.
Even so, there was a strange sense of relief, as if we could understand each other's feelings without saying a word.
Support is not just about systems; it is built on "people connecting people."
And, how much the presence of someone who knows the same pain can support the heart—
I felt that deeply through that encounter.
I had thought my own life was "like a drama," but
there are others living lives just as dramatic.
"There is someone who knows the same pain"—just that alone, I remember, made my heart feel a little lighter.
Connections made by someone else can sometimes save your heart.
This encounter, too, was a precious time that taught me a "form of mutual support."
