Why I Recommend Traveling Abroad When You Feel Anxious About Life
"How was your trip abroad?"
"It was so much fun!"
"That sounds nice, I'd like to go someday."
"You definitely should!"
For most people, the conversation ends there.
It's a standard social pleasantry.
It's not a bad thing at all. It's just that they don't imagine themselves going abroad.
Honestly, I was the same way before I traveled abroad.
I thought that people who could travel abroad were only those who had money and no financial worries,
or people who were navigating life successfully.
Even if someone told me the name of a country, I didn't know where it was, and when I looked at photos,
all I could say was, "Beautiful! Amazing!"
To put it more bluntly, I wondered if it was just bragging.
I felt I couldn't survive unless I saved money for the future.
I felt anxious about living the same life every day.
Thinking that these were dreams I could never achieve anyway.
I was tired of living my life based on others' expectations and worrying about what people thought.
Wanting to change that version of myself,
I decided to travel abroad last year.
This was one of the catalysts that helped me start living for myself.
Because I am stingy, I was the type of person who thought it was a waste to spend a large amount of money on something that wouldn't leave anything behind.
In fact, even for things that I could keep,
I preferred them to be as cheap as possible, even by a single yen.
Yet, I spent about 600,000 yen on my first trip.
But, a part of me in the corner of my heart still thought it was a waste...
For the first time in my life, I left the island nation of "Japan".
My destination was Egypt.
The familiar mountains and greenery saw me off,
The airplane flew above the fluffy clouds,
And traveled back in time toward the west of the Earth.
As if I were time traveling.
As we approached the ground, I saw nothing but desert.
Once I stepped off the plane,
a landscape I had never seen before stretched out before me.
“I never knew such a wonderful world existed.”
An emotion I had never felt before came rushing over me.
“What is this feeling…?”
I was reminded of the song “Haru ni” (In Spring), with lyrics by Shuntaro Tanigawa.

An invisible flow of energy
traveling from the earth up through the soles of my feet
~♪
Yes! It was exactly that same feeling.
A feeling that was mine alone, invisible to the eye.
When I thought that, it seemed he, who was traveling with me, felt the same way.
“So, this is what spending money on travel means!”
I received a stimulus for living for my own life.
Some might think, "Isn't it the same with traveling in Japan?" but I want to say it loud and clear.
"It is a million times more stimulating." That is what I say.
I want to say this to the me from a few days ago:
"Don't you dare say it's a waste!"
I want to scold myself.
But I am grateful to the me who decided to travel abroad. In fact, it would be a waste not to have this experience.
I am reminded of "In Spring" again.

I want to dip my hands into that blue of that sky
With everyone I have yet to meet
I want to meet them, I want to talk to them
~♪
I agree with this part of the poem as well.
It was the same sky I always look at, yet for some reason, it looked different.
Yes, even on the same planet,
when the place changes, your way of thinking changes.
I felt a strong desire to chat with people from many countries I haven't met yet.
Even if we don't speak the same language, there are times when a smile helps our hearts connect.
An atmosphere of feeling strangely compatible overflows.
I realized that is a lot of fun.
Even if I am treated as "someone strange" in Japan, I felt like I was accepted abroad as
"that's good".
"I want to try traveling abroad someday"
Last year, that thing I wanted to try came true.
After returning home, I came to think that I don't want to end that thing I wanted to try with just one time, but
want to continue it from now on.
I want to store all the many overseas landscapes in
these eyes, this heart, and this mind.
"You can earn money, but you can't buy experience."
Money can always be earned back, but
time and experiences lost once can never be bought again.
That is why, rather than leaving it to the future, I want to continue choosing to go abroad
"travel the world"while I still can.

Thank you for today🍀
See you soon.
