Beware of Training on Your Own!?
Hello everyone☀️
I'm Murao, a trainer at BEYOND Urawa and a bulk-build training instructor!
In my time as a trainer, I've often had clients tell me things like:
“I haven't done bench presses since I hurt my shoulder.”
“I had a herniated disc a year ago and haven't trained since.”
I often have clients like this come for trial sessions!!
A common point among these clients is that they have been training on their own.✅
Let's look at the risks of training on your own💪
1. It doesn't hit the target muscle, and 'other areas' end up doing the work
Whether it's YouTube tutorial videos or forms you've seen advanced lifters use at the gym,
even if you try to apply them directly to your own body, everyone's skeletal structure, joint range of motion, and muscle flexibility are completely different.✅
If you imitate them without considering your own body's habits or skeletal structure, the load may shift away from the muscles you want to train (like your chest, back, or glutes) to unrelated areas like your lower back, neck, or front thighs!
As a result, no matter how much time and effort you put in, you end up in a situation where you see no changes in the targeted areas.✅
2. Increased strain on joints and tendons, leading to injury and pain
The scariest thing about training on your own is the misalignment of joint trajectories and skeletal structure!!
When holding weights, if your joints are twisted in unnatural directions or you are moving in ways that ignore your range of motion, the load is placed directly on your joints and tendons rather than your muscles.✅
Especially as you age (including risks like frozen shoulder), you may unknowingly continue to put strain on your body, leading to the ironic situation where you want to train but can't move due to injury.!!
If you don't know the correct way to move your joints, the correct range of motion, and how to select appropriate exercises, it is easy to cause the kind of pain mentioned above.😢
3. The biggest detour: 'Working hard but seeing no results'
A common trait among those who train on their own is using brute force, thinking, “I don't feel it working, so I'll just increase the reps” or “I'll just increase the weight”!!
Even if you put in the volume without understanding the correct way to move your skeleton or the origin and insertion of muscles, you will only accumulate fatigue and your body will not change.✅
The greatest tragedy is falling into a state where you are working hard every day, yet thinking, “I'm trying so hard, so why isn't my body line changing?” and losing confidence, leading to giving up!!
Don't some of you reading this identify with all three of these points??
If you are currently training on your own, it's a good idea to review your form and grasp your current situation!!
If you don't know how to do it, we are always waiting for your inquiries😊
