Doing Chores and Studying on Their Own! What is the "Certain Habit" That Changes Children?
Hello, this is Yokota from Best Vision.
Today, I would like to share some very happy news with you all. We received a lot of joyful feedback from a client, Person A, regarding the wonderful changes in their child. Their transformation was something that truly touched my heart as well.
From "Being Made to Do" to "Wanting to Do"—A Surprising Shift in Initiative
Person A's child originally felt a bit uncomfortable with social interactions and group activities. However, after incorporating the Best Vision style vision training, they began to say, "I want to try doing it myself."
For example, recently, after seeing their school friends swimming coolly, they said on their own, "I want to start swimming, too." Even with a schedule packed with judo and other lessons, they adjusted the dates themselves, saying "Sunday is good," and even went as far as calling their father to ask for permission.
"I want to be able to swim. So please let me take swimming lessons."
Thinking, acting, and expressing their wishes on their own.Person A was truly moved by that sight.
The Sprout of "Autonomy" Seen at Home
What is even more surprising is that this initiative also appeared at home.
"Mom, I'll wash the bath."
"I'll clean up after dinner."
"I decided that I'll do it on weekends."
They noticed their mother looking busy and started helping with chores on their own. This is not just simple helping out, but proof that the "power to act for others" has sprouted. In the Best Vision style, we emphasize the "integration of cognition, emotion, and behavior," and I felt this was the moment that its true value appeared.
Assessment 1: "Contextual Understanding" Brought About by Improved Visual-Spatial Cognition
As Person A mentioned, their child previously struggled to solve word problems on tests or would skip over instructions like "Answer using symbols."
This is often related to issues with "visual-spatial cognition" or "instruction comprehension."
The Best Vision style approach cultivates "information organization" and "instruction extraction skills" through training in viewpoint movement and spatial awareness. As a result, careless mistakes during tests have decreased, and they have become able to accurately grasp the structure and meaning of the entire text.
Assessment 2: Improvement in Motivation to Challenge Through "Integration of Comparison and Emotion"
Also, Person A's child felt "I want to be able to do it too" by seeing children of the same age and comparing themselves.
The background to this "comparison" turning into "motivation to challenge" rather than an inferiority complex lies in emotional control and stable self-esteem.
The Best Vision style focuses on the accumulation of self-efficacy as part of a program to foster self-evaluation.
As a result, the feeling of "I can do it too" took root, and the ability to "learn by watching others and turn it into motivation" was cultivated, rather than "feeling depressed by comparing oneself to others."
Yokota's Famous Quote 1
"You don't do it because you can. You become able to do it because you want to."
Indeed, the changes in Person A's child embody these words.
Inspired by the children around them, they went to a trial class of their own volition and conveyed their will to their family.
Moreover, this series of events, where a reunion with a former close friend further boosted their sense of security and hope, can be said to be not a coincidence, but "actions that sprouted in well-prepared soil."
Practical Points: Two Approaches to Drawing Out Initiative
Let them accumulate "experiences of success" every day
For a child, even the smallest achievement of "I did it" leads to great self-confidence. In vision training, we design programs that allow them to feel that sense of accomplishment every day.Creating an environment that "encourages awareness without comparison"
Instead of making them anxious by comparing them to others, we create an environment where they can naturally think, "That kid is cool" or "I want to try that too." The Best Vision method emphasizes this mechanism of "positive imitation."
Your child also surely has the potential to blossom
Children are not "unable" to do things; they just "haven't brought it out yet."
Like with Person A, just by changing the environment and the way you interact with them a little, the desire to "want to do it" or "try it" will naturally emerge.
That is why we want to continue providing support that draws out "life skills," rather than just training eyesight or physical ability.
Thank you again for reading until the end.
Spring has begun, and it is a time for children to grow once more.
In your daily life, please notice the small changes in your child's heart and watch over them warmly. And let's gently push them forward by saying, "It's okay, you have the strength to do it."
