TASCAM VS-R264 Streaming Encoder/Decoder Configuration Points
First, regarding the exterior, it has a
high-quality feel that is typical of audio equipment.

Since the configuration is unique,
I am sharing the configuration information for my own reference as well.
A device with somewhat quirky settings
A USB memory stick is included, from which you can
install the configuration application "TASCAM DISCOVERY" for
Windows and Mac.

The application can also be downloaded from the manufacturer's website.
The website version might be the latest one.

The menu is in English
First of all, TASCAM is a Japanese manufacturer, but
the menu is in English lol
Since it is a menu configured via a browser,
Chrome's "Translate to English" feature is very useful ^^

In this instance, I have captured and explained some parts using translation to Japanese.
Stream key settings
A feature of this device is that it can send up to three streams.
The configuration is quite unique,
and while you can log in to YouTube to stream,
in reality, that configuration method is often not used in the field.
When entering and setting up with a custom RTMP,
the server URL and stream key
do not have separate input fields.
They are entered in a single line in one place.
Example of how to write it)
Server URL / (slash) Stream key

Below is the Japanese translation of the help summary.
Not all RTMP URLs follow the same format. Here are some examples of formats you can try:
[Server URL]/[Stream key or stream name]
www.mycdn.com/5tr3amk3y
[Server URL]/[Application name]/[Stream name]
www.mycdn.com/live/mystreamname
[Username]:[Password]@[1 or 2]
coolstreamer88:7dvi39sn@...
Some streaming providers require you to add a port number (usually 1935) as part of the server URL. Example:www.mycdn.com:1935/5tr3amk3y
If none of the above work, try different combinations based on the above, or ask your streaming provider for a generic single-line RTMP format.
Setting the device time zone
Since the recording time of the recorded file depends on the unit's time zone,
the initial settings may result in an incorrect time.
From the top menu Device Settings
→ NTP → Time Zone

The list of countries is unusually long,
and after searching for a long time thinking there was no 'Japan' option...
I found 'Asia/Tokyo' lol

Card Formatting
It seems that SD card formatting
only supports FAT32.
From the unit's Advanced Settings,
Storage Device Management

Audio Bitrate Settings
I think this is one of the selling points of this model,
but you can select the audio bitrate from the options below.
There aren't many encoders that allow you to manually increase the audio bitrate up to 512kbps.
64kbps
96kbps
128kbps (default setting)
192kbps
256kbps
320kbps
384kbps
512kbps

AC adapter is not included
When I first saw it,
I thought, 'Huh? Is the AC adapter missing?' but
it operates via PoE power supply from a LAN cable.
PoE stands for Power over Ethernet, which is a method of supplying power through a LAN cable.
It seems there is a genuine AC adapter sold separately.

It might work with generic products as well.
Recommended usage
Connect via the HDMI through-out of a HyperDeck
This allows you to compensate for the
inability to preview in real-time using the HyperDeck Studio.
Summary
Although the settings menu and usage have some quirks,
・Capable of high-quality audio streaming
・Capable of streaming three streams with a single unit
・Capable of simultaneous recording
・Cannot perform real-time preview on the unit itself
I think it is an attractive model to use
once you understand these features!
That is all from the field!
