This book, "Jinbutsu Guttan: A Guide to Deconstructing and Writing Essays," was born from my own experience of overcoming my fear of writing.
I originally thought that writing was only for people with special talents. Since I didn't even have a habit of using social media or keeping a diary, when I started on note, I vaguely wondered, "Is there any value in what I write?" However, one day, I realized that there are things only I can write, and that became the breakthrough for my writing.
The first wall I hit was the problem of "not knowing what to write." I had no specialized knowledge, and even if I tried to share useful information, there were already many people with excellent perspectives. Amidst that conflict, the idea I discovered was to "focus on what only I can write."
The trigger for this was looking back at my past travel records. In particular, when I tried to record memories of a trip with my father-in-law, I realized that the emotions and lessons within me were overflowing. I realized, "The reason I have so much to write about this person is because I have been influenced by him so much," and I became convinced that "I am the only one who can put my thoughts about my father-in-law into words."
Through this experience, I learned that "writing is not a special talent, but a accumulation of realizations." That is how the "Jinbutsu Guttan" series was born. In this work, I write episodes about people I have actually met and been influenced by. By continuing to write through trial and error, I eventually came to the conviction that "even beginners can write if they put in the effort."
Based on that real experience, this book is a collection of the expression techniques and methodologies I learned so that even those who are not good at writing can think, "Let's try writing." By conveying hints for taking the first step, the goal is for readers to realize "what only they can write" and naturally be able to move their pens forward.

🖋 Jinbutsu Guttan: A Guide to Deconstructing and Writing Essays Explanation
1. What is Jinbutsu Guttan?
"Jinbutsu Guttan" originates from Xu Shao of the Eastern Han Dynasty in China, who commented on famous people, and has come to mean "evaluating and examining people." In this book, we propose a method to express this "Jinbutsu Guttan" not just as an evaluation or examination, but as a story. This is because people gain deeper empathy and realization through "stories" rather than "lists of facts."
2. How to write an "easy-to-read story" that even beginners can do
Even for those who are not good at writing, it is important to be conscious of the following three points in order to create an easy-to-read story.
(1) Create an introduction that interests the reader
Clarify "why this story should be written" at the beginning of the text and devise ways to attract interest.
(2) Incorporate your own emotions and realizations, not just facts
By incorporating the writer's perspective and emotions rather than just explanations, it becomes easier for readers to empathize.
(3) Develop the story in an appropriate order
Be conscious of the structure of introduction, development, turn, and conclusion to create a flow that is naturally easy for readers to understand.
3. The process of actually assembling the text
In this book, we explain the concrete process for turning it into a story using the essay "Story of My Father-in-Law" as a subject.
(1) How to choose a subject and set a perspective
What kind of person should be chosen as a subject?
Which aspect of that person should be depicted?
Devising perspectives that resonate with readers
(2) Narrative structure and the reconstruction of episodes
How to build a story with 'Ki-Sho-Ten-Ketsu' (Introduction, Development, Twist, Conclusion) in mind
Utilizing memorable words and dialogue
Crafting descriptions that help readers visualize the scene
(3) Techniques to transform writing into something compelling
Using dialogue to add realism
Starting with an impressive scene
Adding elements that allow readers to feel it as 'their own story'
(4) How to polish a story
Trimming excess information to highlight the intended message
Refining the conclusion to cherish the lingering impression
Endings that make readers feel it is 'relevant to their own lives'
4. Why turn 'Character Critique' into a story?
Depicting a person as a story goes beyond mere evaluation, leaving a deep impression and fostering empathy in the reader.
Creating empathy By depicting it as a story rather than a list of facts, it becomes easier for readers to empathize with the characters.
Providing universality By depicting universal themes that transcend individual experiences (such as views on work, life philosophy, and how to overcome adversity), it becomes a story of value to many readers.
Encouraging reader realization Through the story, you can provide readers with realizations such as 'let's re-evaluate the people around me' or 'let's reflect on my own values'.
5. 'Character critique as a story' that anyone can practice
What you can learn through this book is not just how to write, but 'the technique of knowing people deeply and conveying their charm as a story'. By mastering this,
You can write about the charm of people close to you, such as family, friends, and colleagues
You can record past experiences and encounters to leave for future generations
Learn to write 'effective prose' for work and business settings
Writing is not just about conveying information; it is about moving the reader's heart. Through this book, the goal is for anyone to be able to create a 'compelling story'.
6. Finally
'Jinbutsu Guttan: A Deconstruction and Introduction to Writing' is not just a how-to book on writing, but a volume for learning 'how to express the charm of a person'.
Those who feel uncomfortable with writing
Those who want to organize their thoughts and acquire the power to communicate

Why don't you try writing the 'story' of someone close to you, too?
