When lined up like this, it becomes clear that "slicing by onset" is the strongest in the native version. There was not a single device among the 8 selected here that had transient detection. If you just want to create satisfying chops, Simpler's Transient setting is enough.

The two areas where there is a clear meaning to going outside are random numbers and input during performance. Especially the latter—capturing and slicing the sound that is playing on the spot without preparing the material as a file—has no native equivalent.

For those who are not good at English: You can proceed through 4 sources using only Japanese and video in the following order: Source 2 (mastering native features in Japanese) → Source 6 (Rhythmic Crazy Slicer with Japanese commentary) → Source 7 (BEAST Repeat with walkthrough video) → Source 5 (Angel Chopper with 3 knobs).
For those who can read English: Go through the relevant 2 chapters of the manual in Source 1, then move on to Source 3 (bve.slices). That is the one furthest from the native version.

One last thing. I have not run these 8 devices. What I wrote is limited to "what is written about how they slice," not the result of playing them. Since most of them are free and do not require registration to download, please try installing and checking the ones that interest you. If I find anything out after running them, I will add it to this article.
