🌏 International News
① KDP, JDE Peet's delisting completed (April 30) The $18 billion acquisition of JDE Peet's by Keurig Dr Pepper is effectively complete, with delisting occurring on April 30.
It is scheduled to be listed in the second half of 2026 as "Global Coffee Co." This will create the world's largest coffee company, with over 40 manufacturing sites and more than 130 brands.
② Nestle officially confirms sale of Blue Bottle (April 27) Nestle has officially confirmed the sale of Blue Bottle to Centurium Capital (a major shareholder of Luckin Coffee). The acquisition price is approximately $400 million, slightly lower than the 2017 purchase price (approximately $425 million). While Nestle is letting go of the physical stores, it will retain the consumer packaged goods side and continue to retail the Blue Bottle brand.
③ Starbucks announces Q2 earnings recovery (April 29) Starbucks achieved $9.5 billion in revenue in Q2 2026, with 6.2% year-over-year same-store growth. The stock price rose by 9%. The "Back to Starbucks" strategy appears to be starting to pay off.
④ Luckin Coffee Q1 2026 earnings (April 29) Luckin's Q1 2026 net revenue was $1.736 billion, a 35.3% increase year-over-year. With a net increase of 2,548 stores, the total store count reached 33,596. They also announced their first share buyback program of up to $300 million.
⑤ World of Coffee Bangkok is underway (May 7-9) Held from the last day of Golden Week through the end of the holiday. The 2026 World Coffee Roasting Championship (WCTC) is being held in Bangkok, Thailand for the first time. As of the time of writing, the Japanese representative has passed the preliminaries!
⑥ Shanghai International Coffee Culture Festival opens (April 30-) The 6th Shanghai International Coffee Culture Festival opened on April 30. The opening ceremony was held at the North Bund water stage, and it has become a city-wide festival with about 300 booths deployed throughout the city. It is an event that symbolizes the maturity of the Chinese coffee market.
⑦ De'Longhi (La Marzocco) achieves record performance in 2025 De'Longhi announced 2025 revenue of 3.8 billion euros (up 8.7% year-over-year) and a net profit of 316.3 million euros. The coffee division, including La Marzocco, drove these results.
🇯🇵 Domestic News
① Tokyo Coffee Festival 2026 Spring held (May 2-4) It was held for the first time over three days during the Golden Week period. 40 groups from Japan and abroad participated, and it seems that new sensory content appeared, such as the plant-based milk "KOJI BARISTA EDITION" and "MOKABLE" (using finely ground coffee beans) to "eat" coffee.
② Wave of coffee price revisions (from April) UCC Ueshima Coffee raised prices for household and commercial coffee by 10-18% for shipments starting March 1, 2026. Price pass-throughs against the backdrop of high international market prices are in full swing. This is also spreading to roasteries across the country.
③ Japan's "2050 Coffee" expands overseas to a second country (April) 2050 Coffee, based in Kyoto and centered on the concept of sustainability and automation, announced its second overseas expansion into a rapidly growing coffee market in East Asia.
