A human courtroom drama depicting the growth and bonds of divorce lawyers
Feeling unwell, I started watching a drama on my tablet in bed for the first time in a while, and I finished it last night.
New lawyer Han Yu-ri (Nam Ji-hyun) joins the major law firm Daejeong. There, she meets star lawyer Cha Eun-kyung (Jang Na-ra), who specializes in divorce litigation. Assigned to the divorce team, which she has no interest in, Yu-ri begins learning the ropes, thinking it will only be for a short while, but she cannot keep up with Eun-kyung's methods of prioritizing the client's interests. Just as Yu-ri reaches her limit and considers quitting, she witnesses Eun-kyung's husband having an affair. Yu-ri is chosen as the representative for the divorce suit of the star lawyer, which has captured the public's attention.
This is a human courtroom office drama where Jang Na-ra and Nam Ji-hyun play divorce lawyers facing numerous divorce cases, co-starring Kim Jun-han, singer P.O (Block B), Ji Seung-hyun, and others.
The first half of the drama depicts the two of them facing divorce cases brought to the law firm, while star lawyer Cha Eun-kyung, played by Jang Na-ra, faces the hardship of her husband having an affair. New lawyer Han Yu-ri, played by Nam Ji-hyun, is appointed as Cha Eun-kyung's representative for the divorce suit, and the story follows the two of them standing up to the situation.
The second half depicts the two of them helping each other and growing as they act as opposing counsel in divorce cases—Cha Eun-kyung, who became independent from the law firm, and Han Yu-ri, who remained—following Eun-kyung's own divorce suit and a murder case involving the son of a hospital director who was a client of the firm.
When this work was aired, it seems it had 16 episodes, but it is distributed as 32 episodes on video streaming services like Netflix.
I thought it might be a long haul when I started, but with each episode shortened to 33 minutes, I found it surprisingly easy to watch.
It was my first time seeing Jang Na-ra since the drama 'V.I.P.' Her slender figure hasn't changed, but her acting seems to have become even better.
It was my first time seeing Nam Ji-hyun since the drama 'Little Women.' Even though she has already entered her 30s, she is still youthful—to the point where there is a scene in the drama where a client mocks her as being 'fresh out of college'—and I felt energized by her crisp, clear acting.
Even though it is a courtroom drama, it is mainly about divorce litigation, so it had a different feel from typical legal dramas. However, it can be tiring when it's only about romance and human drama. When I'm feeling unwell, I thought this was just right.
