Why I do not scold students who do not practice
This morning, I read an article titled "Magic words that stop your subordinates from growing."
It really made me think that even in business, you have to think about how you speak to people.
How I speak to my students
It is certainly different from business, but when speaking to students, I try to ask them why they were able to do something rather than why they couldn't.
When speaking to students, I try to ask them why they were able to do something rather than why they couldn't.
How did you become able to play this?
(Why were you able to do what you couldn't do last time?)
How did you come up with that method?
...................................................
When I do that, the students start to notice where they are struggling and come to me for advice, saying, "I'm having trouble with this part..."
and they start to notice where they are struggling and come to me for advice, saying, "I'm having trouble with this part..."
If I just say, "You're wrong here!"
it won't go well unless they realize it themselves!
In the first place, only you can know the correct answer in music!!
Why don't they practice?
In my regular lessons, I am always thinking about how I speak to my students.
I am always thinking about how I speak to my students.
And I do not scold students even if they do not practice.
This is also a matter of my professional pride, because I believe that if a student does not practice, it is because my own professional skills are lacking.

Reasons for not doing assignments
In many cases, students not doing their assignments is actually the instructor's problem.
1. They don't feel motivated (the assignment isn't something they want to do)
2. They don't understand the point of doing it
3. They don't know how to do it
Of course, there are environmental issues, such as being busy or the piano being in a room far away from the living area, so in those cases, I need the parents' cooperation, and I also discuss how to make time with the students.

and I also discuss how to make time with the students.
Once they get to a certain age, there are also times when they are truly too busy to practice.
In such cases, I conduct lessons that can be done even without practice.
I am just so happy that they come to piano lessons despite being busy with club activities,
that there is no way I could scold them!!
The reason I don't scold
Basically, I never get angry at my students.
However, with one exception...
I tried to keep this in mind as much as possible when raising my own four children as well.
Because getting angry at children never leads to anything good.
Even if they do something just to avoid being scolded,
they won't actually learn anything.
Moreover, it is said that the brain is designed to learn things that are fun.
The one thing I promise during the first lesson that I will "become a demon and get angry" about
is that if I say "Stop, that's dangerous," they must stop immediately.
I make a pinky promise with the students.
If you make just that one promise, no matter how mischievous a child is,
they understand that "that is absolutely forbidden,"
and there is never a case where they don't listen.
Everyone keeps their promise.
Reading music is easy when playing piano with chords!
Once you learn to play the piano using chords, reading music becomes easier, so you can quickly play your favorite songs at sight.
My method is to teach chords to child students as well.
Even when they become middle or high school students and get busy,
if they know chords, they can sit at the piano and quickly play their favorite songs even when they are tired from studying.
It's okay even if practice time is short!
This is also recommended for adults who are starting piano as a hobby!
