2025/05/10 T-shirt
I'm doing Uber from the morning. Good for me.
It was raining last night, and it was raining a little this morning too. Thanks to that, a 100-yen rain bonus was triggered. It's a small amount. I feel like it's gotten a bit lower. It's a real shame.
Since the bonus is small, a job with a higher payout popped up even though the distance was a bit far. Since it was right after Golden Week, I thought I wouldn't be able to earn much on Uber, so a job that pays about 1900 yen even if it takes about an hour isn't bad at all.
A sandwich chain store in front of Ochanomizu Station. It's super far from my house. But I arrived at the store wondering why they would call me from this far away.
I think it took me about 20 minutes to get to the store. It wasn't ready yet. Hmm. I'll wait for now. Then another delivery guy, an older man, arrived. He was also being made to wait a bit.
The older man started talking to me. "I'm finishing up with this one today." Is that so?
"Today is the Kanda Festival, so there are a lot of people around here giving out parking tickets. You should stop," he said. I see. So that's what it was.
Uber has a clever system. Before, when I was waiting for orders at home, a high-paying job like "1800 yen for 5km" popped up. That's great! I thought, and when I went to check it out, it was the Tokyo Marathon, the Sanja Festival, or the Sumida River Fireworks Festival. They do whatever they want. It's a job that takes about an hour to run 5km, so it's actually cheap.
They lure drivers from home to such trouble spots with high payouts. Uber has a very smart AI. I must be careful not to be fooled.
Taking this man's advice, I tried my best to get away from Ochanomizu and head back toward Taito Ward. The pay goes down the further I get from Kanda, but it's better than dealing with the stress of the festival.
After delivering a certain amount, I went home, got ready, and headed to Toyokan. I have to go because I've been given a spot in the Manzai Association's Manzai Grand March.
Today's turn is at 12:30. I'm the first one up. What I'm more concerned about is that the T-shirts I made yesterday morning have arrived, so I need to present them to Yuta-san from Waragumi and Kasao-kun from Wakusei Kappo. Since Waragumi is here today, it's perfect. It seems Kasao-kun's turn is still a while away, so I'll leave them in the wings.
Yuta-san was just there, so I handed it to him, and he seemed very happy, which was great. Oh my, it's a T-shirt maker's dream. T-shirts are meant to make people smile.
I feel like I'm regaining my youth. It's like that "class T-shirt" vibe. In high school, we bought matching shirts every year with caricatures of the third-year baseball team members drawn on them. Since there's no reason to throw them away, they're waiting at my parents' house, and I still wear them when I visit. I also made department polo shirts when I was a college student. Where did those go? I don't remember throwing them away, so they must be somewhere in my house in Tokyo.
Being a contrarian at heart, I spent my time turning my back on the class T-shirt culture. I had an attitude like, "I don't need that~."
Especially when I was a college student, I felt a strong sense of guilt about spending money on things that weren't necessary, given that I was living alone on my parents' money and being allowed to study.
Now I've turned into an old man who loves making T-shirts. Making T-shirts is fun, you know. Ideas like, "Would this design look cool?" or "Would this illustration be interesting if I expressed it this way?" keep popping up.
From now on, I'll keep making shirts I want to wear, wear them myself, and offer them to those who want them at a reasonable price. Looking forward to it!
After doing my manzai set and heading out for Uber again, I'm exhausted. I still haven't recovered from the fatigue of my trip, but since I have a talent agency live show tomorrow, it's going to be a night of adjusting my routine without sleep. Oh, I'm so done. Oh, I got scolded.
What I thought was interesting today is, "You never know when, where, or how people will change."
