From a 500-character writing project to a partner earning 100,000 yen or more per month. I will record the 4 years we walked together.
Today, I am leaving here the prologue to a story that I will be writing in a series.
First, please let me write a little about myself.
I work in a position where I place orders at a marketing company.
I have been involved since the company's launch four years ago, and I am still there today.
There is someone who has been running alongside me ever since that launch period.
A male writer, around my age.
In this note, I will refer to him as Writer S.
I met S four years ago.
It started with a single 500-character writing project I posted on CrowdWorks.
From there, slowly but surely, the scope of our work expanded.
Now, four years later, he has become someone I can confidently entrust with 100,000 to 150,000 yen worth of work per month.
(If my past self saw me now, I think he would be surprised.)
Today, I will share just the starting point of why I want to write this as a series.
At first, it was a 500-character request.
To be honest, at that time, I didn't feel that S-san had a 'special talent'.
They were someone who wrote their articles carefully.
However, there were many others who could write just as carefully.
What made S-san 'different from other writers who could write' was actually not their writing skills.
I realized that a little while after we met.
Now, I entrust them with 100,000 yen or more per month.
As I wrote at the beginning, the work I currently entrust to S-san is about 100,000 to 150,000 yen per month.
The scope has expanded to tasks other than writing as well.
I will write about how it specifically expanded in order throughout this series.
There is only one thing I want to write here, which is the phrase that best describes the relationship between me and S-san.
It is not 'I raised them'.
It is not 'They grew for me'.
'We walked together'
This feels the most right.
As the scope of my work expanded, so did the scope of S's work.
Because I have the peace of mind that comes with being able to entrust tasks to S, I was able to reach out for new challenges.
It is that kind of relationship where we lift each other up.
(I am truly grateful to be able to work with someone I sincerely never want to let go.)
The difference was not a special skill
This is the core of what I want to write about in this upcoming series.
Why did S, whom I met four years ago through a 500-character project, become such an important presence?
The difference was not a special skill.
It wasn't that their writing skills were outstanding.
It wasn't that they had spectacular achievements either.
However, there were several ways of working that they had continued to do from the time we met until now.
Those were ways of working that only a handful of people have been able to do, even among the over 1,000 application messages I have read from the client side.
(I will write about them one by one, properly, in the main body of the series.)
Things I plan to write about from here on
In this series, I will cover themes like these.
These are tentative headings, so the order and wording may change.
The one single thing S-san did during the first six months
The reason I wanted to entrust S-san with work they had no experience in
The day the scope of work expanded for the first time
The day of the rate negotiation
The moment I thought, 'I want to work with this person for a long time'
For those who have started a side job but struggle to get accepted after applying.
For those who get accepted, but the work ends after a single project.
For those who cannot seem to find the right distance to keep with clients.
I want to record stories from S-san's four years as honestly as possible for people like that.
Finally
Even if you are not getting accepted when you apply right now.
Even if you can only land one-off writing gigs of 500 or 1,000 characters.
I want you not to panic.
If you keep at it without making mistakes in your approach, you can follow this path even without special skills.
S-san has shown us that.
Even without special talent, if you steadily build up your work, you can become someone trusted as a partner earning 100,000 yen or more per month.
In the four years I have walked alongside S-san, I have seen that happen right before my eyes.
(I would like to put that journey into words, one step at a time, from here on out.)
I would be happy if you could read the rest of this series.
Thank you for reading until the end!
