Let's Talk About Hayao Kawai ④✧♡
Psychology has helped me as a teacher.
Rereading "Prescriptions for the Heart," I realize that this book is quite interesting and profound even for me to read now.

And what my younger self relied on were the words that became the headings in each chapter.
I used them like spells to protect my own heart.
Recently, I was surprised to be suddenly blocked by a noter I thought I was close to, but at that time, the following words happened to appear in a book I was reading.
「よくないことは、実はよいタイミングで起こっている」(小林正観)「イヤだと思わなければイヤなことはなくなる」(小林正観)「きみをきらいなやつはクズだよ」(木下龍也氏の短歌集のタイトル)Just as my blocked heart was about to be hurt, these words appeared like a message, and I felt them covering my heart with armor, like CGI in a movie.

My heart was protected, and I gained the courage to face the truth.
Should I admit that everything that happened is my own responsibility?
It seems I did something.
The moment I thought that, I felt myself drifting away from the situation.
It is mysterious.
And I imagined the information field that protects my heart like that armor. Perhaps the words I want to live by are flying around, surrounding the heart of the person that is me.
I somehow imagined that every single person has such an information field. What I found interesting is that even though the fact that I was blocked had not changed, I was able to defend myself with my own spells.
「きみをきらいなやつはクズだよ」Actually, I might be the trash for being hated enough to be blocked, but by chanting these spells, my heart was protected ( ゚Д゚)!
(I don't actually think the other person is trash lol)
I realized once again that the power of words is amazing.
Using the words of Hayao Kawai that I encountered in "Prescriptions for the Heart" as spells, I was able to continue my job as an art teacher until I was 60 without quitting.
I realized that Hayao Kawai's words played a significant role in protecting my heart as a teacher.
I will quote from "Prescriptions for the Heart" the words that created the information field for me as a teacher.
ひとのこころなどわかるはずがない。
I was greatly helped by these words from a mental health expert. Mr. Kawai says that it is because one is an expert that one knows what it means to "not know." A young teacher like me could not possibly understand a student's feelings. Even if I don't understand a student's heart, and even if things don't go well, I will try to understand and stay close to them.
100%正しい忠告は役に立たない。
When I was a young teacher, I only gave students advice that was 100% correct. These words taught me that it was completely useless. I must state the truth that I feel. Only those kinds of words reach students.
説教の長さとその効果は反比例する。The longer a child's lecture is, the less they are listening ( ´艸`)
自立は依存によって裏付けられている。Those who have been spoiled by their parents can become independent, and those who have indulged in play to their heart's content can graduate.
うそは常備薬、真実は劇薬I used to believe that lying was wrong, but in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, there is a chapter called "The Gentle Lie," which suggests that some lies might be good. I tend to think of truth as correct, but I also know that truth can be a potent drug and even dangerous.
強いものだけが感謝できるThe weak hurt those around them, lash out, and the person who put in the most effort simply walks away. I have seen students who told me they had done nothing to me express their gratitude.
物が豊かになると子育てが難しくなる
In the modern age, as the world has become more affluent, raising children has become more complex. Having more choices for children also means that life has become more difficult.
In the past, life was poor, simple, and straightforward, with only one choice. Now, because we are affluent, isn't it difficult for both parents and children to choose from a mountain of options?
「知る」ことによって二次災害を防げる
Having failed repeatedly as a homeroom teacher, I gradually began to understand what was wrong with me as a teacher. It is painful to admit that I am a bad teacher, but I have no choice but to admit it and crawl my way up from there one step at a time.
However, the fear of failing again is always there.
I went from being a junior high school teacher to a high school teacher, and as a high school teacher, I became a homeroom teacher. I was scared, but I was helped by Hayao Kawai's words that "secondary disasters" can be prevented. I was already in my 30s and had acquired various knowledge from Kawai. I listen thoroughly to students who are different from me. Listening to them means being on their side. I was also grateful that high school students, unlike junior high students, were not raging storms and were mature enough to understand if you talked to them.
As a teacher, I have overcome the walls that appeared one by one.
It is usually work that brings me unpleasant and unreasonable things. And I hate that more than anything.
Until you accept those walls without thinking of them as unpleasant, God will not allow you to graduate. Unless you solve it yourself, the same wall will come back in a different form.
The cause of everything in the visible world lies within oneself.
Unless you admit this and work out a solution, the world will not change.
When you change your mind and decide to accept everything, before you know it, the training is over.
...and as I wrote this, those words came to my mind.
マジメも休み休み言え。I was too serious to talk about the rigid job of being a teacher lol
Weeks have passed without me feeling like posting this article.
Yesterday, I watched a recording of "The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle" on 100 Minutes on Classics. Dr. Dolittle and his party went on an adventure and played a major role in helping the villagers of an island.
To my surprise, they were nominated to become the king there. What's interesting is that even his name was changed.
From the name Dolittle to the name Thinkalot.
The name Dolittle means "Do little."
The name Thinkalot means "Think a lot."
By becoming king, Dr. Dolittle had to transform from someone who does a little work into someone who thinks a lot.
The teacher who does a little work was translated as "Osabori-sensei" (Slacker Teacher).
I really was "Dr. Dolittle," an "Osabori-sensei" ( ´艸`)
The most shocking thing I heard from Hayao Kawai was that the soul and the heart are different things.
心は努力をしたがるが、魂はさぼりたがっている。
Kawai-san says that if you leave yourself to the efforts of the heart, dust will gradually accumulate on your soul before you know it. There might be people in your workplace who value their soul more than their work.
I have had colleagues who were strong-willed and worked hard, but for some reason, they quit their jobs halfway through. Their hearts snapped in the middle.
Looking back at myself, I wonder if I didn't just let myself be swayed by the strong winds instead of fighting them head-on. I feel like I stood up to them from the sidelines, doing just enough so that I wouldn't break.
I was swayed by the runaway heart, and I slacked off appropriately before my soul could scream.
I would catch a cold at just the right time, or pretend I had errands to leave early and go do something refreshing.
I remembered that I was the one who voluntarily let off steam before I snapped and ended it all.
The more serious a person is, the less they forgive themselves, so they snap without slacking off.
After all, you should take breaks even when being serious.
For all of you who are busy with work right now, please try to become an "Osabori-sensei" voluntarily before you collapse.
Your soul might be wanting to slack off ( ´艸`)
The reason I am a happy, free person today is
all thanks to you.
