Ucchi's Parenting Diary Vol. 47 - My son rolled over!
Hello!
I'm Ucchi, a new dad.
Happily, my son rolled over for the first time on July 12th!
Today, I'd like to post about my son's rolling-over episode.
1 Whispers of an angel and a devil
While my wife was at the hair salon, I was home alone babysitting our son.
Watching my son, he was lifting his legs and twisting his hips, and I saw signs that made me think,"Wait? Is he about to roll over?"as I watched him.
Since my wife was out, I was forced to choose between the following options.
Option 1: Enjoy his first roll over by myself
Option 2:
Prevent him from rolling over and enjoy it together as a couple after my wife returns
Given my personality, I wanted to choose option 1, but since it could affect our future relationship as a couple, I decided to choose option 2.
Therefore, I held him and waited for my wife to return for about two hours.
2 Spin! A full rotation
When my wife got home and I put our son down on the bed, he immediately started to roll over and did a full rotation in no time.
I was able to record that moment clearly on video, so I uploaded it to the photo-sharing app "Mitene" and shared his rolling over with all our relatives.
3 New problems arise
Can't take my eyes off him
As soon as he started rolling over,I couldn't take my eyes off him even more.
Now that my son has learned to roll over, he keeps spinning around, and since he ends up on his stomach the moment I look away, I'm afraid to leave his side. (Even going to the bathroom is a struggle...)
Also, he tries to lift his legs and roll over during diaper changes and baths, so the diaper changes and baths I had finally gotten used to haveleveled up a bit.
Graduating from the crib
We were using a compact-sized crib at home, but once he started rolling over, he would almost get his hands and feet stuck in the crib rails, so for safety reasons, we decided tograduate from the crib.
And, I newly purchased a play mat.
This is the play mat we bought for our home. I bought it because it was on sale, but I've been able to use it without any issues.
When I asked experienced moms for advice, they recommended a play mat for the floor.
They told me that while joint mats (the kind you lay out like a puzzle) are usable, dirt tends to collect in the seams, and children often pull them apart as they get older, so a play mat is a better choice.
I immediately drove to Toys"R"Us and bought one.
After I bought it, I laid my son on the play mat, and perhaps because it's easier to roll over on, he rolled over skillfully without worrying about the crib rails.
My son, who has climbed another step on the ladder of growth, looked a little bigger than usual. I'm looking forward to his future growth even more.
