My First Visit to a Kampo Pharmacy! The Story of Finally Turning to Kampo for My Heavy Menstrual Flow and Liver-like Clots ③
The background on how I ended up using Kampo is in my past articles:
①A Long-standing Problem
②The Path to Kampo
1. The moment I stepped into the uncharted territory of a Kampo pharmacy
I can't take this anymore!
The heavy menstrual flow and liver-like clots were increasing day by day, and it was truly an abnormal situation.
Since the gynecologist could only offer iron supplements, I was at my last stand.
And so, I finally stepped into the mysterious and somewhat suspicious-looking Kampo pharmacy.
The place that took my 'first time' is located in Niigata City, the
Harbin Kampo Pharmacy.
The name alone is already full of exotic charm. (It's apparently read as 'Harubin')
I had seen it before, but I never imagined I would end up going there myself.
When I entered the shop, it wasn't actually that suspicious inside (lol).
The doctor was from China.
Their Japanese was a little broken, but it didn't feel that strange.
I consulted with them about my history and my usual state of health.
2. Having Kampo medicine prepared for me
As a result of the consultation, the doctor showed me a page in a Kampo medicine book, saying, "I think this one would be good for you" (I'm exaggerating a little).
The one chosen for me from among many was a Kampo medicine called
"Juzen-taiho-to"
.
Looking at the description,
It replenishes blood deficiency, improves blood circulation to moisten blood dryness, and boosts heart and liver function.
It replenishes qi deficiency, strengthens the spleen and stomach, enhances digestive function, and builds up muscle tissue.
【Effects/Benefits】
Physical weakness after illness, fatigue, loss of appetite, night sweats, cold hands and feet, anemia
was written there.
While I felt that things like blood deficiency and qi deficiency were indeed involved,
since the doctor recommended it, I had no reason to refuse, so I asked for that one.
At this Kampo pharmacy, you can choose between two types: regular decoction herbs and pre-extracted herbs in packs.
Since decoction herbs take time to boil every day, those who find it troublesome choose the extraction packs.
Because the extraction packs cost more and I had a curiosity to "try decocting Kampo medicine myself," I asked for the regular decoction herbs.
3. Finally got my hands on the Kampo medicine!
After waiting about 20 minutes, my personalized Kampo medicine was finally ready.

The writing on the white paper bag also has a refined feel, and it is full of that Kampo medicine vibe.
I listened to the explanation on how to decoct the herbal medicine, and then it was time to pay.
"That will be 21,000 yen."
...
...About 20,000 yen for one month's supply. (700 yen x 30 days)
In my heart,
"So expensive!!!!"
I screamed, but on the surface, I pretended nothing was wrong and paid the money.
Of course, Kampo is not covered by insurance, so it was the full amount in cash.
Yes, I knew that (sweat) ← Actually, I had forgotten.
While regretting that I had come on a whim, I still left the pharmacy feeling satisfied that a new path had opened up.
Well then, the reform of my body finally begins.
I will continue this next time.
