[First Snowfall] How the short-sleeved, short-wearing elementary schooler in Niigata is doing now.
It is a beautiful road.
I live in a snowy region.
It is Niigata, the place that comes to mind when you think of "snow country."
The morning of December 15th.
When I opened the curtains,
there was
a white world spread out before me.

It is the first snow.
Since I am in Niigata City, it is not on the heavy side, but
even so, there is an 11cm accumulation.
This time of year has finally arrived.
On the other hand,
my son refuses to give up his short sleeves and shorts even in December.
A dedicated short-sleeve and shorts fanatic.
That is my son.

A story from yesterday.
"OK Google. What is the weather today?"
"High of 3°C, low of 1°C. It will likely snow."
My mother says,
"Surely you should at least wear a jacket today... They say it's going to snow."
My son: "No, I'm going in short sleeves."
He won't budge.
Even my husband, who is usually gentle, says,
"People will think it's strange if you go in short sleeves."
"Are you really okay with that!"
His tone has become a bit harsh.
Even so, my son stubbornly refuses to give in.
In the end,
he headed out in high spirits wearing short sleeves and shorts.
Although it was a day when snow was occasionally fluttering down,
my son stuck to his short sleeves and shorts.
And now, a night has passed.
A morning with 11 cm of snow accumulation.
My mother said to my son.
"Don't you think you should wear a jacket today?"
Even I, as his mother, am persistent in recommending it.
At first, my son was hesitant.
He looked at the snow outside and even went out to check it for himself.
And after much deliberation, the answer he came up with was
to "take" the jacket with him
instead of wearing it.
(Why? Just wear it.)
And then,
"I'm going in short sleeves and shorts, okay?"
He wouldn't budge on this.
As a result,
an "elementary schooler in short sleeves and shorts carrying a jacket"
walked off into the falling snow.

(There was also a bit of a struggle with my son, who didn't want to wear rain boots.)
Think of boys as beetles.
A teacher at a baby class once said this.
These words really hit home for me now.
The problem is thinking of them as the same kind of human.
Boys are not human.
You must not think of them as human...
The height of incomprehensibility. Elementary school boys.
Can all you mothers out there who have boys relate to this?
[P.S.]
Since he refuses to wear anything but shorts,
I am recording here for posterity that I had long pants remade into shorts.
I am recording this here as a record.
(Since shorts aren't sold at this time of year)

My house is chaos.
Send a message of encouragement to the troubled Kireido.
