What is your delusion? Exposing my delusions at the Niigata Delusion Conference
Delusion ~MOUSOU~
Doesn't that sound a bit shady?
Or maybe a bit embarrassing to talk about?
Don't you get that kind of image?
Let's talk about those "delusions"
that you wouldn't normally tell anyone.
That was the bold project held the other day.
What does it mean to talk about delusions?
You might be wondering.
I was full of questions myself when I signed up.
Today's story is about
a report on the Niigata Delusion Conference
held in Akiha Ward, Niigata City
Since I'm at it, I'll spill my own delusions too.
(Don't say you don't want to hear them!)
What is the Niigata Delusion Conference?

A delusion conference is
a place to spark experimental initiatives starting from delusions
apparently.
There are delusion conferences that lead to community development,
and others centered around parenting generations,
so they are held in various places, even if the forms differ slightly.
[Examples of Delusion Conferences Nationwide]
・Shimokita Delusion Conference
・Oyama Delusion Conference
・Yumesapo Mama Delusion Conference
Meanwhile, it was first held in Akiha Ward, Niigata City in 2019.
The Niigata Delusion Conference
had a total of 80 participants over three sessions.
They say there are even cases where
delusions actually came true because of this conference.
Amazing!
That legendary project has been revived after several years.
On December 8, 2023,
the Niigata Delusion Conference was held in Akiha Ward, Niigata City!
Woo-hoo!
What do you actually do at the Niigata Delusion Conference?

I signed up with great enthusiasm, but
don't you wonder what kind of people
would come to a "place to talk about fantasies"?
Even if it were someone like Luffy, it's one thing,
but what if someone intense showed up...?
Is it okay for someone like me,
with my casual, secret fantasies, to be there...?
My pre-event fantasies won't stop. lol
And so, the day arrived.
There were 21 participants,
and of course, there were no pirate-like people.
(As if there would be)
I get nervous speaking in front of large groups, but
since we were splitting into groups of 5 or 6,
I felt a bit relieved.

I struggle with what to say when I'm not good at talking, but
since we write down what we want to say beforehand, it's okay to just read it aloud.
The content to talk about is
1. Name
2. Where you live, hometown
3. What you can do, special skills, hobbies
4. What you want to do, what you want others to do for you, things you wish existed, things you want ideas for
We write this out in advance and present it one by one.
The time limit for one person is 5 minutes.
2 minutes of that is for self-introduction,
followed by a 3-minute Q&A session.
This is repeated until everyone in the group has finished.
We switch groups once,
and the system is to share fantasies in a total of 2 sets.
How was it participating in the Niigata Fantasy Conference?

In a typical networking event,
even if it's fine for outgoing people,
I think introverts can't really step forward.
Sometimes you end up barely talking to anyone at all.
However, the Niigata Fantasy Conference is different.
We split into groups
and start by listening to each other's stories.
So, in a short time, you get to know everyone to some extent.
That's why questions come up naturally, and you find points of empathy.
Besides, delusions are something
you can only talk about with people you are quite close to, right?
Since I'm sharing them with people I'm meeting for the first time,
it feels like suddenly getting naked.
(Is that a bit of an exaggeration?)
It's like a relationship where you've shared a secret.
(*Individual experiences may vary) ← It's safe to write it this way.
I felt like I got closer to the other participants all at once.

And you know, things I thought
might be delusions only I had,
it turns out there are people who have similar ones.
Talking with such people just naturally makes me happy.
I didn't know that just talking about delusions
could be this much fun.
Even delusions I had been brooding over alone,
just by having someone looking in the same direction,
I start to feel like I can actually do something.
By participating in the Niigata Delusion Conference,
it seems like I've built up the energy to say,
"I want to try this!"
Motivation power!!!

So...
I've started to want to talk about my own delusions.
Well then, let me ride the momentum and talk about my delusions.
This time, it will be a delusion regarding town development.
Here I go.
Living in the regional city of Niigata,
I am witnessing
the increase in vacant houses and abandoned farmland.
In my town, the number of children is plummeting and the population is aging,
making it a region that is truly a preview of Japan's future.

So, what I am thinking about is
whether we can create a new agricultural region
that combines natural cultivation (synergistic farming is also a term I'm curious about)
with abandoned farmland
is what I mean.
Niigata is a place where agriculture is thriving.
That is precisely why I believe the impact would be significant.
Abandoned farmland may look like a bad thing at first glance,
but if you consider that soil improvement by microorganisms is progressing,
it can also be said to be a place where it is easy to start natural farming.
So,
I want a system that can match abandoned farmland with people who want to have a natural farming field!
And,
if we could involve farmers and people doing home gardening,
and revitalize the town as a town of natural farming as a whole,
that would be great!
Then we could contribute to food problems,
and if the related population increases, the town will also be revitalized!
We can also contribute to the future that Japan is heading toward.
…That is my fantasy.
I think it's a strategy typical of Niigata, though.
Yes, it is completely at the fantasy level.
However, as a first step,
I was able to clear the first hurdle of
trying to output it.
This is thanks to the energy I received at the fantasy conference.
The next event date is undecided, but if you definitely want to participate!
