3. The 3 Essential Elements: What Symptoms Occur When Qi, Blood, and Body Fluids Are Imbalanced? Beginner's Home Yakuzen
1. "Qi" is an invisible source of energy
"Qi" is the driving force for the body's vital activities. It activates internal organ functions, circulates blood and body fluids throughout the body, and maintains body temperature. It also prevents the entry of things that cause illnesses like colds and controls blood and body fluids to prevent them from leaking out of the body. It plays diverse roles such as creating blood and body fluids and converting them into sweat or urine.
2. When "Qi" is imbalanced
It can be said that "Qi" functions and works by circulating properly, but when it is insufficient, it enters a state of "Qi deficiency." In this state, internal organ functions slow down, immunity decreases, and you become prone to fatigue.
Even if the amount of Qi is sufficient, if it stagnates somewhere, it enters a state of "Qi stagnation." The flow of Qi worsens, leading to abdominal bloating, irritability, and a constant feeling of being unwell or sluggish.
3. "Blood" delivers nutrients throughout the body
"Blood" is made from nutrients taken in from food and drink. It is stored in the liver and sent from the heart to the entire body. Its major role is to circulate throughout the body, nourishing and activating each tissue. It nourishes the internal organs and supports the creation of beautiful hair, skin, and nails. It also supports mental activity by satisfying the heart, clarifying consciousness, and providing mental stability.
4. When "Blood" is imbalanced
When you are in a state of "Blood deficiency," where blood is insufficient, each tissue becomes malnourished, leading to poor health. For example, it is said to easily lead to women-specific illnesses such as a pale complexion, symptoms of anemia like dizziness, menstrual irregularities, and cold sensitivity.
When you are in a state of "Blood stasis," where blood stagnates, your complexion may become dark, and chronic pain may occur in areas where blood is stagnant.
5. "Body Fluids" (Jin-ye) are fluids other than blood that moisturize the body
"Body Fluids," also called "Water," refer to fluids other than blood, including sweat, tears, and urine. Moisture extracted from food and drink taken into the body by the spleen rises to the lungs and is dispersed throughout the entire body. Afterward, it is warmed by the kidneys, turns into something like water vapor, and circulates through the body, moisturizing it. It works to heal the mind and body by calming excitement and relieving fatigue, and finally, it is excreted from the body as urine or sweat.
6. When "Body Fluids" are imbalanced
When water is insufficient, it enters a state of "Yin deficiency." The body becomes parched, and various parts such as the throat, skin, and joints become dry, and blood also tends to become thick and sluggish. You may develop a cough or tend to have dry skin.
When you enter a state called "Phlegm-dampness," where the flow of body fluids is stagnant, excess moisture accumulates in the body, which can cause edema and diarrhea. If these symptoms worsen, disorders appear in the respiratory and digestive systems, leading to severe coughing, abdominal bloating, and loss of appetite.
