The story of when I asked my company to let me have a side job and was rejected
The reason I decided to start a side job
The reason is simple.
My take-home pay is low.
With my monthly salary, there is almost no money left after paying my bills, so I have no money to spend on hobbies or entertainment.
Some might say I should just put up with it, but isn't it really tough to work so hard only to find that you're barely scraping by?
(By the way, I was deeply addicted to pachinko at the time, so it was my own fault...)
Direct negotiation with the company
I knew the company rules stated, "Side jobs are not allowed without permission," so I thought, why not just ask for permission? I naively went to negotiate directly.
My email said,
"Please let me have a side job to supplement my living expenses." But the company's response was an unexpected one-liner: "We do not permit side jobs."
.
I felt like they had basically told me to drop dead.
I wasn't asking for a raise; I was asking for permission to earn money on my own, and they wouldn't even allow that... I was extremely disappointed.
The reason I decided to start a side job without permission
I thought it was certain that my side job would be discovered by my main employer, so at first, I tried to get proper permission.
However, when I looked into it, I found out that as long as you don't make any mistakes in how you do it, your side job won't be discovered.
Furthermore, I discovered the fact that, "in principle, side jobs cannot be prohibited." This completely changed my mindset.
Even if the company finds out, I thought, "I'll just quit this company as soon as possible!," and decided to start a side job without permission.
How to avoid being discovered by the company
Although I decided to start a side job, I needed to carefully consider how to avoid being discovered by the company. Here are some points I was conscious of.
1. Make the side job unrelated to your main job By choosing a field for your side job that is unrelated to your main job, it becomes harder for the company to be suspicious. You can emphasize that it does not affect your main work, which reduces risk.
2. Strictly adhere to your main job's hours I made sure not to do my side job during my main job's working hours. I dedicated my side job time strictly to my private time (evenings and weekends) to ensure it never overlapped with my main job.
3. Be careful with activities on social media and the internet I was careful not to write about my side job on social media or the internet. If you post information about your side job on a social media account that identifies your main employer, it could lead to discovery, so I acted cautiously.
4. Keep income streams separate This is the most important point. I made sure not to have my side job income deposited into the same account as my main salary, and instead had it transferred to a separate bank account. This ensured that even if the company were to investigate, the existence of the side job would not come to light.
Regarding tax returns
If you have a side job, you can handle it properly for tax purposes by filing a tax return. To keep your side job from being discovered by your company, it is effective to separate your tax returns for your main job and your side job. This allows the tax office to manage your income appropriately while making it less likely for your company to find out about your side job.
However, when reporting side job income on your tax return and paying taxes, you must be careful to ensure there are no errors in income management.
Although I intend to touch on the details in another article, basically, by filing your side job income separately, you can say that you reduce the risk of being found out by your company.
Summary
Ultimately, to ensure your company does not find out you have a side job, it is important to properly manage risks, and not neglect preparation.
While the benefits of having a side job are significant, do not forget that there are also disadvantages if your company finds out.
Even if the company finds out, I want to work hard enough to be able to say, 'My side job pays better, so I'm quitting.',,,,,,
It has only been a short time since I started my side job, but I will do my best from here on out!!!!
