The Hito-iro Exhibition and Photo Cushions
18 days until the Hito-iro Exhibition in Fukuoka (#^.^#)
Today, I'd like to introduce the
photo print cushions
I made together with Ako Haruka-san😊
One of the themes for Fukuoka is "relaxation."
We decided to place cushions at the venue with the hope that small children and local residents could relax and feel at home.
"What should we do about the color and pattern of the cushion covers?"
"How about if Asami-san draws them?"
From that conversation, we started talking about,
"How about printing Haruka-san's photos alongside the Iro-no-ko characters!"
Haruka-san chose colorful photos by looking at the Iro-no-ko characters.
We are attempting to print those onto cushions.
Two months ago, when I wrote this article,
Haruka-san had already sent me the cushion covers and photos.
I had suggested grouping the photos by color, such as reds or blues, but to my surprise, Haruka-san chose photos for all 42 of them...!
It must have been difficult to choose from so many photos, but feeling her kindness and thoughtfulness in choosing for everyone made me so happy😌

The photos she carefully selected,
receiving what I felt about the colors.
The photos have so much to say,
and as I looked at each one lined up with an Iro-no-ko character,
my heart was filled with an indescribable emotion.
has found a new place to belong!

The process is as follows:
① Print on iron-on transfer paper
② Cut out with scissors
③ Iron on
First, I was surprised by how beautiful the print colors were✨
That alone was exciting!
Next, the cutting process. It was a fun task that let me clear my mind.
I could have done it forever (lol)
It looks like they are all playing together.
And then, time to iron!
I decided on the general layout and carefully ironed them on.
There was no turning back from here, so it was the most nerve-wracking part.

And so, 7 cushions were completed!
"Full of energy, tangerine color"
Bursting with energy!
"Color of a gentle gaze"
The same breeze is blowing.
"Color of an innocent smile"
The cat's expression and the flower's color, peaceful loveliness.
"The color of unchanging hope"
The strength felt from straight lines and color.
"The color of quiet prayer"
A place where words are not needed.
"The color of a treasure I found"
A beauty like a sparkling memory.
"The color of staying up late"
A fantastical, deep night...

"Let's put photos on cushions!"
It started as just a whim, but once they were finished, I felt that their fluffy texture gently carried me into the world of the photos.
While making them, I thought about many things.
Once you iron them, there is no turning back.
Because of that pressure, I felt like I couldn't step outside the lines, and I felt frustrated later, thinking I could have played with it more pop-style...!
But when I looked at the root of my heart, I realized that I wanted people to look at the photos straight on, which is why I couldn't make them diagonal.
To make up for that, I let the color circles play around.
And I placed the 'Iro-no-ko' (color children) as if asking them, 'Where do you want to be?'
connect with the cherry blossoms in the photos.

In the collaboration project I held the other day, I also received various works from everyone on noter.
Just as I imagined characters from colors,
the fact that you could imagine various things from the 'Iro-no-ko',
made me very happy.
It was a dream-like time.
Likewise, the world of imagination that Haruka-san contributed!
This was also a dream-like, fun time.
I hope you will pick them up at the venue and enjoy the world of the works.
