(Bandwagon Effect, Cognitive Dissonance, Learned Helplessness)

The Wicked Sorcerer Ruling the Nation

Do you consider your IQ to be high? Or low? When asked this, everyone brings up their academic background or grades from their student days, but in reality, it doesn't have much to do with it. IQ is the ability to memorize, reason, and judge. The more you know, the wider the range of reasoning you have, and the better the judgment you can make from many options.

In this section, I will write from the opposite perspective to further expand the range of reasoning. In other words, what if I were the "Wicked Sorcerer Ruling the Nation"? I will proceed with the story under that assumption.

If I were a wicked witch...

If I thought from that position, I would start by limiting the IQ of the target of manipulation. It is inconvenient if the target can think about various things.

Limiting IQ is not that difficult. You just need to implant distorted memories. Then, the target will believe they have reasoned and judged for themselves, and will be unable to harbor doubts about the distorted judgment that comes from the distorted memory.

This is because humans are not built to doubt their own memories.

The younger the age of indoctrination, the more effective it is, and furthermore, a group living environment is optimal. This is because we can utilize the human nature of the "Bandwagon Effect".

Bandwagon Effect

Humans have a psychological characteristic of trying to conform to those around them when there is a large group. Among the targets of manipulation, someone will inevitably appear who harbors the suspicion, "Isn't that person actually a wicked witch?" To dispel that doubt, rather than me directly preaching, "I am not wicked," it is more effective to have "peers" who make distorted judgments based on distorted memories persuade them that "that person is not wicked." Because humans dislike loneliness, they will try to conform even if it means bending their own thoughts in a group living environment. The more "peers" there are, the more the bias works, so gathering a large number of people of the same age in one place and applying manipulation is very effective.

Twelve years is appropriate for that group life. After 12 years of manipulation, the distorted social structure I created becomes common sense, and they will become "distorted cogs in a distorted society" without harboring any doubts.

Past sorcerers managed society by indoctrinating the Western "he who does not work, neither shall he eat" through propaganda. However, since I am also a wicked perfectionist, I use even the free time of the targets for indoctrination. The manipulation here is very simple; I just use entertainment media to implant thoughts so that they always lean toward "ease." If I keep them constantly craving "ease," when "cognitive dissonance" occurs, they will always choose the "easier path."

Cognitive Dissonance

"Cognitive dissonance" occurs when one holds contradictory cognitions in their mind. Humans take action to resolve this dissonance, but there are only two choices: "fundamental treatment accompanied by pain" or "easy, deceptive symptomatic treatment." A famous example is the "smoker's dissonance."

Suppose a smoker realizes the risk of lung cancer.

1. I smoke cigarettes
2. Smoking causes lung cancer

At this point, 1 and 2 are contradictory. Because they smoke while knowing the risk of lung cancer, cognitive dissonance arises in their mind. Changing 1 is the best way to resolve this state, but the smoker is addicted to nicotine, and quitting involves great pain. Therefore, they choose the easier path. Instead of changing 1, which is the fundamental solution, they conveniently twist their own mind just to resolve the dissonance. They do it themselves.

If they cannot make the painful choice, they look for words to mitigate 2 and try to resolve the dissonance between 1 and 2. Applying this to the example, they mitigate the dissonance with magic words like "there are long-lived smokers" or "the risk of dying in a traffic accident is higher," and forget about the "risk of lung cancer." Applying this to reality,

2. Common sense is manipulated

Even in such a case, if "ease" is encouraged through various media, even if they notice the distorted social structure created by a wicked me, they will choose ease themselves and forget to look for magic words on their own. Saying things like, "That's a conspiracy theory," "You're overthinking it," or "That's impossible by common sense."

Furthermore, if you limit their IQ from childhood and provide them with entertainment, they won't even try to know about ancient symbols, and they won't even try to look at obvious facts lying right in front of them, so you can control them very efficiently.

Even so, someone who notices occasionally appears. Someone who is strong in solitude and whose reasoning is not restricted. They may seem like a dangerous person at first glance, but if you properly manipulate the IQ of the masses, they will be plagued by "learned helplessness" and self-destruct.

Learned helplessness

When humans form the cognition that "nothing I do works" in a situation where it is difficult to avoid stress over a long period, helplessness resulting from that learning occurs, leading to symptoms similar to depression. Once this happens, even though they could actually escape the situation with just a little effort, they think any effort is futile and stop taking spontaneous action.

To put it more simply, as in the image above, it is just a matter of going around the wall a little, but because they have learned that "this wall cannot be crossed," they become convinced that "climbing the wall is useless" and cannot even think of the simple answer of "going around." In reality, examples include "people enslaved to black companies," "victims of domestic violence who do not escape," "victims of bullying who do not escape," and "people in excessively oppressive households who do not escape." Furthermore, they get used to it while breaking down, thinking "that environment is correct."

In other words, no matter how much someone who is not affected by the majority conformity bias tries to say words against me, if you set the IQ of the masses low so they cannot understand, they will eventually form the cognition that "it is useless to say anything," be plagued by learned helplessness, give up, and while breaking down thinking "I am the one who is wrong," they get used to the broken environment.

Such an environment, which is very convenient for a wicked me, becomes a more solid common sense as it passes from parent to child, from child to grandchild, and through generations.And this IQ restriction is automated. Since parents do not show the figure of learning at home, children grow up imitating that figure. Rather, parents willingly turn on the brainwashing box called television, take the drug called alcohol which I have set as legal, and show their lazy figures obsessed with entertainment to their children, so a wicked me is very helped. Although people can only learn from suffering, parents endlessly seek "fun and easy things," rob children of their chances to learn, and even do the assisting of a wicked me at home.

・Finishing touches

And as a finishing touch, I prepare the pans of a scale. Red and blue, front and back, good and evil, men and women, light and darkness, hit or not... well, anything is fine, but the point is to prepare both pans of the scale and "make them fight each other". If you keep this scale swaying back and forth for decades, tilting it here and there, the manipulated subjects will continue to blame their peers on the opposite pan and will not point their fists at the wicked me who is tilting the scale and continuing the control. They cannot even see it, let alone point their fists.

Because the masses have been brainwashed since childhood that the wicked me is "the best person in this country." Because I have made them believe that I am "praying with my life on the line to protect the country" for the sake of the masses. Because I am a descendant of a special bloodline born from ancient gods, a witch born from gods, with fairy tales that cannot be refuted or proven, firmly added as if they were true.

Then, you see, even though they are controlled by me, every New Year, the citizens gather in the garden of my house and wave the national flag, which is my symbol, with joy. Even though they are controlled by a bad witch, they worship the witch. Interesting, isn't it? Even if I am right in front of them, they do not see me.

Humans can be moved more easily than you think. Because bad magicians have been doing so since long ago.

Summary

And one last thing, the most important thing to be careful of when exerting control is to make sure that 'good magicians' and 'the masses' never connect. Because good magicians know the same 'way of using magic' that I do, and if they were to teach that to the masses, my magic would be broken, wouldn't it?Magic is basically about exploiting people's assumptions. It's about making people hallucinate that something exists when it doesn't. Once the magic is broken, it's hard to cast it a second time. So, you have to be very careful.

But fortunately, you need 'knowledge' to understand the stories that magicians tell. If you keep people obsessed with entertainment, they won't bother with difficult learning, and they won't be able to understand what's being said anyway, so it's fine. That is exactly why IQ restrictions and the 3S policy are so important. As the old saying goes, 'let sleeping dogs lie,' right? The masses are the same; keep them asleep. By the time they wake up, they will be in a rigid, controlled society, and there will be no need to use magic to control them anymore.
