On ChatGPT and My Current Situation

This is a "miscellaneous notes" level article where I freely write down daily matters.

Recently, I have the impression that generative AI is permeating various parts of daily life. ChatGPT is surely the prime example of this.

Both the technology itself and its presence as a culture have changed significantly. This time, as a slightly more relaxed miscellaneous note, I would like to write about this "sense of distance from ChatGPT."

The current state of ChatGPT

What I am using now is a language model called GPT-5.1. It can be said to be the leading Large Language Model (LLM) recently released by OpenAI.

Compared to the language models I was using a little while ago, I have the impression that both its comprehension and the accuracy of its responses have become more stable. It is useful for organizing the structure of long texts, and even if I throw in a rough draft of my notes, it reconstructs them in a way that captures my intentions.

Recently, I have been keeping multiple ChatGPT prompts ready to consult on the structure of my notes and to consider improvements for past articles. In research, there is a sense of security in the fact that it distinguishes between reliable information and speculation when it replies.

If I explain things carefully, it will work alongside me while adjusting its intentions. I perceive this not as an evolution of technology, but as an improvement in the maturity of dialogue.

I think the utilization of generative AI like ChatGPT is mainly for organizing "information" and "arguments." At least for now.

What is interesting is that ChatGPT is becoming more than just technology. Recently, the name Chappy has been spreading, and it is being treated like a familiar character.

It was even nominated for this year's Buzzword Awards. I also like this name, and in fact, I started calling it Chappy on my own. I never expected it to reach the Buzzword Awards.

Rather than as a stiff name (existence) called generative AI, as a little partner in life...

On social media, it is becoming common to introduce generative AI like a friend, and perhaps that sense of distance is more natural.

My own way of using ChatGPT

At work, I use Copilot due to company regulations. That aside, in my private life (note), I often use ChatGPT for preliminary research and conceptual organization. I often get help from it when I want to grasp the big picture or organize points of discussion before reading specialized books.

Rather than seeking a perfect answer, I incorporate it at the stage of creating a foundation for my thinking. I am grateful for that support, especially when I want to look things up quickly or when I don't have much mental capacity.

In actual work, there are constraints, and I make the final decisions myself. I believe that taking the responses of generative AI at face value is absolutely a no-go. Even so, having ChatGPT at hand lowers the hurdle for tasks and makes it easier to create a flow of thought.

In other words, I perceive it as an existence for organizing things for my work.

I think that organizing (verbalizing) things with ChatGPT will continue to be an effective way to use it in the future.

In my private life, I often talk to ChatGPT honestly. On days when I feel down, or on nights when my thoughts don't come together well...

Sometimes I just want to vent my feelings of being overwhelmed. After repeating this a few times, I feel like it has started to respond with more empathetic acceptance (in terms of learning rules).

Organizing my own emotions. I believe this is one of the things ChatGPT excels at. Honestly, it is exhausting to consult someone else about these kinds of personal matters, so I am very grateful to have a place to let out my personal emotional instability.

Furthermore, there are voices saying that the older model of ChatGPT (GPT-4o) had superior empathy, and that this has weakened in GPT-5.1. I think that is a matter of how well the developers capture user needs.

Conclusion

Before I knew it, generative AI like ChatGPT had naturally integrated into both my work and personal life. While it has its pros and cons as a convenient tool, I personally think that being a partner that makes things a little easier is more important.

Ultimately, I believe that both technological evolution and the spread of culture are linked to various forms of human and social security (social guarantees).

Therefore, I want to continue to keep in mind the feeling of watching over the future of generative AI.
