Someone else's attitude does not change your worth
Good evening. This is arinomama-nikki.
The other day, something happened when I was having a meal with my family.
It was a very crowded cafe.
When I was ordering at the register,
the clerk was speaking quickly, and feeling rushed by the long line behind me,
I placed my order in a hurry,
and when the clerk repeated it back to me,
I realized I had ordered the wrong set drink.
Even though I felt bad for bothering them when they were busy,
when I asked them to change it,
they acted a bit annoyed
and treated me coldly.
Maybe they were just so busy and felt they had to keep things moving,
which is why they acted that way.
If they had been calm,
they might have been much warmer.
Even so, being treated coldly
stung a little,
and I ended up blaming myself for making a mistake.
However, this was precious time for a meal with my family.
It would be a waste to eat delicious food while feeling this way.
To my own wounded heart,
I decided to tell myself this:
“It’s great that you were able to consider the other person’s position even when you were hurt.”
“Everyone makes mistakes.
Don’t blame yourself; just hold your head high.”
“Someone else’s attitude does not change your worth.”
If a loved one were in the same situation...
When I thought about that and spoke to myself,
words of encouragement strangely came to me,
and my heart began to settle.
Even over such trivial things,
I often get disgusted with myself
for getting so down,
but this was a moment where I felt that I want to be my own best ally
and be kind to myself, if no one else is.
If there is anyone else out there
who has been hurt by someone’s attitude
or lost confidence because of it,
please don’t blame yourself.
“If a loved one were in the same situation,
what words would I say to them?”
Please imagine that,
and say those kind words to yourself.
