I chose this for a Mother's Day gift (*mostly a request)

For a few days, my mother had been dropping hints, saying things like, "I'd really like something like this."

My mother already has a "thermometer and hygrometer" in her bedroom. I suppose it would be even more convenient if it had a clock, too. After hearing her hint, I thought about which one would be best and where to buy it, and decided to look on Amazon. I could have looked at a home improvement store, but the phrase "same-day delivery" was very compelling.
With various candidates available, I just tossed this one into my shopping cart.

The deciding factor was the design. While similar products are almost exclusively white, I was drawn to the fact that the Tanita TT-559 comes in a choice of body colors: gray, orange, and sky blue. I figured if I'm giving it as a gift, a plain color wouldn't be very interesting.

Another thing I was concerned about was the size of the text. Even if the design is good, it's meaningless if it's hard to read. My mother is 75, so visibility is important. The drawback of online shopping is not being able to see the actual product, but I judged that based on the body size, it shouldn't be a problem. When I finally held the delivered item in my hands,

It's quite large. For a desk clock, this size is probably fine. By the way, the price is just a few hundred yen more than other companies' products, but I think that includes the design element, and above all, it's the TANITA brand. I think she'll like it.
