The Choice to Have My 5-Month-Old Daughter Adapt to Me
Basically, life revolves around the baby.
Perhaps because she is my first child, the daily routine, the timing of outings, and even breaks are all up to the baby.
I thought that was natural, and that it was just how things were supposed to be.
However, I recently came across the idea in overseas parenting philosophies that "children should gradually adapt to their parents' lives" and "a mother being in a good mood is the most important thing."
I am influenced by it, but I still find myself putting the baby first.
I tried laying a mat on the floor and doing some stretching.
For about 10 minutes.
Time to stretch my body just for myself.
I thought she might cry or that I would have to stop halfway through, but
the baby was surprisingly looking at me with a smile.
Since then, I have been able to stretch a few times.
Of course, there are days when she cries halfway through and I can't do anything.
But being able to think, "It's okay if I can't do it every time," was a big deal for me.
Life revolving around the baby hasn't changed.
But instead of just "adapting" to everything,
sometimes I have the baby wait for me.
Just a little bit of time for me to return to being myself.
It feels fulfilling.
Well-being for me right now means
recovering my own breath while facing my baby.
Allowing myself the choice not to try too hard.
"What fulfills me right now?"
Just having the time to quietly think about that question by my daughter's side
makes every day feel a little bit softer.
