Banyan Tree Observation Diary 1 (A Quiet Roommate)
This is my second post in a row. This time, I would like to talk about the roommate who is brightening up my life living alone.
Unfortunately, even monsters have feelings of loneliness. At the root, I am still human.
Ta-da!!

This is Banyan-kun on his fourth day with me. I was feeling so lonely that I decided to buy him. (He cost about 3,000 yen...)
I could have bought one at a 100-yen shop, but there are no stores nearby, and I didn't want to deal with fungus gnats that might emerge from the soil, so I chose a Banyan-kun that can be grown using a method called hydroculture.
Instead of soil, it uses a mineral called zeolite, so there is almost no worry about bugs appearing. It seems to have some amazing purifying properties. Wonderful...!
Unlike soil, it seems that nutrients don't reach the plant as easily, so the growth rate is slow, allowing me to enjoy his cute state for a long time.
However, since there is no hole in the bottom, if you give it too much water, root rot will occur and it will die quickly... This is something to be careful about.
Basically, it is said that it will grow healthily if you fill the glass container with water up to about one-third of the way. Since I probably only need to give it a little water once every 2-3 weeks, it is very easy to take care of. Although, it is necessary to let it sunbathe occasionally.
However, the fact that it is easy to care for is a bit sad, as it is hard to get the feeling that "I am taking care of you!"...
So, I mist the leaves every morning. This serves to moisturize Banyan-kun's leaves while also cleaning off any dust.
The trick is to make sure you wet the trunk too!
It feels a bit pitiful to use only water, so I use a diluted mist supplement for the leaves. I don't know if it's necessary to do it every day, but I do it to satisfy my own selfish desire to "take care of him because he's cute!" (Sorry if you don't like it.)
And, by the fourth day, the leaves are already growing. There is nothing that makes me happier than this! I am satisfyingly assuming it's thanks to me. (It's probably Banyan-kun's own power.)
Personally, I think loneliness refers to a state where "you have no one to rely on, and no one relies on you." I was exactly in that state, so I found myself thinking more and more, "What am I living for?" Just a state of living to survive.
Sorry, that sounded like a Koizumi-style tautology. But I think there are surprisingly many people like this. They just don't tell anyone.
Personally, I think those are the very people who should buy a houseplant. Having that thought somewhere in your heart that "If I don't take care of it, XX will die!" creates a goal to live for XX at all times, so to speak.
At the very least, I think the clouds in my heart cleared up after I brought Banyan-kun home. Of course, it's not perfectly sunny, but it has stopped raining.
I bought Banyan-kun because I was attracted to his cute appearance and the flower language of "health and lots of happiness," but there are so many options out there, so I hope you all look into it as well.
Other representative ones would be snake plants or money trees, I suppose. They are all cute, so it's hard to choose.
When you can't choose by appearance, I think it's also good to choose based on shade tolerance or cold hardiness.
I will post updates about my banyan tree whenever there are any changes, so please look forward to it.
I'll end it here for today.
Thank you for reading.
Following me would be a great encouragement.
Thank you in advance.
