Hiro Sakakibara (2023) 'Introduction to Oshi Tanka', Sayusha
I am interested in tanka.
I picked this up thinking I would like to try writing some myself.
My plan was that starting with something I love would make it easier.
It clearly articulates the process of taking the vague, passionate feelings of love and finding the right words to shape them so they can be conveyed to others.
It covers not only the techniques and methods of expression used in tanka, but also touches on places to publish the tanka you have written and how to appreciate the works of others. It was interesting both as a first book for getting into tanka and as a piece of reading material.
At the end of the book, there is also a record of an actual tanka gathering that was held.
Also, the cover and illustrations were drawn by Mr. Tanuma of 'Iyahaya Atami-kun'. Being able to see those drawings was also a highlight.
