[Parenting] The desire to 'win' is necessary for growth, right?

Today, I am writing about [parenting].
Last week and this week, I was able to see moments where children were really fired up.

I had assumed that children these days were cool and detached.
However, I encountered an event that made me feel, 'They haven't changed that much from when I was a child.'
I reflected on my own assumptions.

And I really wanted to tell the principal that it is important to properly determine rankings at sports festivals! Haha

Children serious about Dodgebee

Do you know the sport called Dodgebee?

It is a sport I learned about after my child was born.

It follows dodgeball rules, but you throw a frisbee instead of a ball.
It seems quite difficult because you never know where it will fly.

The other day, a tournament was held in the ward.

Children who belong to the children's association practiced, and those selected from among them participated in the tournament.

When choosing the players, I heard that a child who wasn't chosen was crying, and I thought vaguely,
'I thought kids these days weren't that interested, but I guess that's not the case.'

And on the day of the match, seeing how the children rejoiced when they won,
I felt, 'They're actually quite passionate!'

What left the biggest impression on me was when they lost a match that would have decided the championship if they had won.
The sight of the children coming back while crying.

I cried along with them. Haha
I can still cry just thinking about it. Haha

The meaning of ranking

At the elementary school my daughter attends, there are no winners or losers at the sports festival.

Opportunities to see children competing, feeling frustrated, and rejoicing have decreased.
Therefore, I had assumed that
'Children these days are cool and detached.'

I thought they weren't interested in competing...

However, seeing them face winning and losing seriously, seeing them think about how to win,
and seeing the children cheering with loud voices, I realized that was just my own assumption, and I reflected on it.

Children today also have very passionate hearts.

There is no need to obsess over rankings.
Everyone did their best, and that is enough.

While that way of thinking is important, competing properly is also important.

I wonder if schools could start ranking students again?

The feeling of 'I don't want to lose!' leads to action.

While the idea of knocking someone else down is not good, competing for the sake of one's own growth and using comparisons with others as fuel for growth is important.

Necessary for emotional growth

Because they compete with someone and think, 'I don't want to lose!',
the feeling of 'I'll practice more! I'll make this my goal next time!' is born.
is born.

What kind of effort will they make to win?

I was worried about what would happen when children who don't compete grow up,
but this time, I was able to see the passionate feelings inside my child, and if we can nurture these feelings carefully, maybe Japan will still be okay?

I have a little hope.

However, if the education and environment continue to suppress these thoughts, that precious passion will disappear somewhere.

Schools, communities, and families—the environment surrounding children is important.

And now that there are fewer children, I feel once again that it is important for schools, communities, and families to cooperate and move in the same direction, rather than heading in different directions!

It is necessary for PTAs, children's associations, neighborhood associations, local governments, and schools to discuss what today's children need and move forward together.
