[My First Note] Self-Introduction: Why I, having witnessed the tragedy of industrial accidents for over 30 years, create 'images that save lives in 1 second'

I am sure many people have repeated these words in their hearts over and over again.

If only I had been a little more careful back then.
If only I had noticed it back then.

But that 'back then' will never come back.

What remains after an accident

Nice to meet you.
My name is KAZU from Anshin Design Works.

It has been getting warmer little by little, hasn't it?

I am making my note debut.

Let me first tell you about the content of my note articles.

I intend to mainly write articles on workplace safety and health awareness as clearly as possible, while also introducing image data for posting in workplaces and similar environments.

Let me introduce myself.

For over 30 years, I have worked in jobs involving people who have suffered industrial accidents and their surviving families, as well as in jobs promoting safety and health.

I have heard voices that could not be put into words countless times.

A person who tripped over a tool left on the floor and fell, suffering a femoral neck fracture and becoming unable to walk as they once did.

A person who lost their sight when a snapped wire hit their eye.

A person who touched a rotating blade and lost four fingers.

A person who lost their balance and fell from a height of about 1 meter while working on a stepladder; because they were not wearing a helmet, they hit their head and were left with a higher brain dysfunction, forcing them to spend the rest of their life in bed.

A person who suffered a spinal cord injury in a fall accident caused by insufficient fall prevention measures while working at heights, leaving them unable to hold their young children and confined to a wheelchair.

And...

I have also seen family members just staring at a portrait of the deceased and crying in front of the family altar in their home.

An accident happens in an instant.

But the life that follows lasts forever.

Income concerns.
Children's education.
Loans.

Above all,
the sense of loss from having lost a precious family member.

"Why did this happen?"

There is no answer to that question.

The cause is nothing special.

Many accidents
did not all happen because someone was doing dangerous work.

Rather,

- I was used to it
- I was in a hurry
- I thought it would be fine

They happen in such ordinary moments.

That is exactly why it is scary.

It can happen to anyone.
I truly believe it lurks right next to our daily lives.

"I'll be fine."
The moment that feeling arises, even for just a second.

Accidents happen as if they are targeting that very moment.

Are your bulletin boards functioning?

There are safety posters on site.

But,
are they really being seen?

The same slogan in the same place every day.
Faded paper.
Warnings with nothing but lines of text.

Even though you were reading them at first,
before you know it, they become part of the background.

They are there, but no one is looking at them.

That has always bothered me.

What I thought at a certain worksite

Once, I visited a site where an accident had occurred.

There was a bulletin board there, properly displayed.
There were also the words 'Safety First'.

But.

What if,

that person, just before starting work,

had seen something that made them tighten their focus, even for a split second?

Would the result have been different?

I don't know the answer.

But I,

have thought many times that if there had been 'something to call back the awareness of danger', perhaps this 'serious outcome' might not have happened.

That is why I decided to create images

I was not a designer.

But,
I am a person who has continued to see what remains after an accident.

The figures suffering from residual disabilities, such as intense pain, joints that do not move as intended, missing limbs that should be there, or being unable to move by one's own will.

I have also seen many families who have suddenly lost a beloved husband or son, and are simply left weeping.

That is precisely why I want to reduce, and eliminate, even one such tragic incident.

It is important to 'convey' safety, but as time passes, feelings fade.
Is there not something I can create that is closer to the workers on-site, something that 'reminds' them of safety in real-time?

That is,
the beginning of Anshin Design Works.

We produce image data for safety and health at worksites.

We are not doing anything flashy.

We just want to create something that,
for someone important,

'makes them straighten their back just a little by looking at it'
'makes them think, "Oops, I need to be careful"'
is what we aim for

I am seriously creating such a piece.

I am creating images like this

There are moments that words cannot reach

When people are in a hurry, they do not read text.

They are moving by reflex, not by thought.

That is why I believe we need something that reaches the senses, not just explanations.

The moment you see it,

'Oh, I should be careful'

Whether you can think that or not.

That is all it is.

At worksites with an increasing number of foreign workers

Recently, I have had more opportunities to interact with foreign workers.

Due to the labor shortage of Japanese workers, I believe the number of foreign people working at sites will continue to increase.

It is true that some foreigners are treated as nuisances due to a lack of manners or common sense, and some even commit crimes, but the majority are just like us, working hard and earnestly every day for their own sake and for the sake of their beloved families.

There are also many who smile and talk to me in broken Japanese when we meet.

They are living their lives to the fullest in a foreign land.

However, the anxiety of not understanding the language. The fear of working without knowing what to do.

Worksites where people move based on 'a hunch' without being able to read Japanese warning signs.

That is a huge risk for both the individual and the company.

That is precisely why I am conscious of creating
designs that do not rely too heavily on words, so that even such people can understand them at a glance.

Understandable at a single glance. A sense of alertness.

That is my ideal.

For the minimal necessary words, I use Japanese as the main language,
while also including English, the world's common language, as well as Vietnamese and Indonesian.

I will be honest.

I do not believe that 'posters will reduce accidents to zero'.

Because it is not that simple.

But.

I believe they have the power to 'bring consciousness back to that moment'.

Just one second,
just a single moment.

I truly believe that that one second
can be enough to change a life.

My wish

I
do not want to see any more people go through 'painful experiences' or 'sad feelings'.

I do not want to increase the number of people who,
from now on, regret by saying 'If only I had done that back then...'

Bulletin boards are not just for decoration.

They can be the final brake for those working on-site.

That is what I believe.

If, at your company's worksite,

'I've gotten a bit used to things lately'
'No accidents have happened, so it's fine'

If there is such an atmosphere.

A single image that stirs the air, just a little.

I create them with all my heart.

Finally

Safety cannot be measured by numbers alone.

Because the future that was saved leaves no record.

But I,

do not want to lose any more of the future that could have been saved.

'If only I had been more careful back then'

To reduce those words to zero.

Today, I am creating one more image.

Please let me introduce something at the end.

It is about the images I create.

It might be a bit scary or graphic, making you think, 'Wow! That looks painful!', but not everything is like that.
My goal is simply for you to see it, think 'I should be careful' in an instant, and as a result, go home safely every day without incident.

I hope to be of some help in achieving this goal and ensuring you can spend such ordinary days safely.

I will be writing and sharing articles that are useful for safety and health in the future, so please feel free to stop by if you'd like.

Thank you very much for reading until the end.
