[Press Conference/Kazuko Muto] 7/1 Announcement of the New Party "Team Mirai" Official Candidate for the Saitama Prefecture Constituency in the House of Councillors Election
Greeting from Party Leader Takahiro Anno
Thank you all very much for gathering here today for the Team Mirai press conference, despite your busy schedules.
Today, the new party "Team Mirai" is announcing our official candidate for the upcoming July House of Councillors election in the Saitama Prefecture constituency.
We have selected our official candidates based on two key points: individuals who are active on the front lines of society with their own specialized expertise, and individuals who deeply understand the philosophy of Team Mirai and are capable of actually rolling up their sleeves and working hard for Japan once they enter national politics. I am confident that Kazuko Muto, the official candidate we are introducing today, embodies the philosophy and values of Team Mirai and is a person who can devote her full efforts to realizing a "bright future" for everyone. Now, I would like to proceed with the announcement of our official candidate.
From Kazuko Muto (Official Candidate for the Saitama Prefecture Constituency)
Thank you very much for gathering here today despite your busy schedules. Once again, my name is Kazuko Muto, and I am the official candidate for Team Mirai for the House of Councillors Saitama constituency.
Born in 1981, I spent my time until high school graduation in Ibaraki Prefecture before moving to Tokyo for university. After graduating, I joined an IT company and spent 18 years working as a server engineer and project manager, focusing on system development and business reform. Currently, I am a mother of two, living with my husband and my 4-year-old and 2-year-old children. It was the presence of these children that led me to decide to challenge myself in the world of politics. As I watch my children grow every day, I find myself increasingly remembering my own childhood. In the area where I grew up, there was no public transportation within walking distance; it took 20 minutes by bicycle to get to the library and 20 minutes by car to get to a bookstore. Accessing information was not easy. Furthermore, my family was not financially well-off; I couldn't attend the cram school I wanted to go to, and I can count on one hand the number of times my family went out together. At the time, I thought that was normal, but as I grew up, I became painfully aware of the reality that a child's learning opportunities are greatly influenced by where they are born and their family circumstances.
In fact, according to the "FY2021 Survey on Children's Educational Expenses" conducted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, children who had many natural and cultural experiences in their childhood tend to have higher self-esteem, extroversion, and mental resilience in the future. This survey suggests that there is a significant gap in opportunities for such experiences depending on a family's economic situation and environment.
While I want to provide as many experiences as possible for my own children, I could not help but think that it shouldn't just be for my own children. I want to deliver rich experiences and learning opportunities to all children, regardless of their economic situation or regional differences. I am convinced that the power of technology, which can be utilized precisely in this era, is what will make this possible.
For example, through AI-powered personalized learning support and online mentorship systems that connect people across regions, we can create an environment where every child can "learn at their own pace," "develop their strengths," and "nurture their curiosity." If we do not move forward consistently over the next 5 to 10 years—starting with system design based on technology, followed by building execution systems that function in the field, and finally creating mechanisms that reach children and families—Japan risks repeating the stagnation of another "lost decade."
I strongly feel that we adults must take responsibility and proactively update the very mechanisms of society so that our children do not ask us in the future, "Why didn't you act back then?" What I have talked about today is my starting point and the beginning of my political activities. From now on, I will engage in thorough dialogues with the people of Saitama Prefecture about education, daily life, and the future.
Additionally, at Team Mirai, we are working on an initiative to reflect your voices in policy-making through an online system called the "Interactive Manifesto." We are simultaneously working to improve our policies daily by receiving feedback through this mechanism from those with whom we cannot have direct conversations.
Your voices are the driving force for creating a better society. I am determined to do my utmost to ensure that Japan, and Saitama Prefecture, can continue to move forward, and to build a society together where each and every one of you can take pride in having played a part in this change.
With that, I conclude the greeting from Kazuko Muto, the official candidate for the new party Team Mirai for the Saitama Prefecture constituency. Thank you very much.
